    Uruguayan authorities suggest would-be travelers get vaccinated against measles

    Measles spreads easily through air, direct contact, or secretions

    Uruguay's Ministry of Public Health (MSP) Wednesday issued an alert for measles ahead of Tourism Week -the country's lay version of Easter Week- urging travelers, especially those heading to Argentina, to verify they have two doses of the measles vaccine, as the neighboring country has been reported to be experiencing community transmission of the highly contagious disease, just like parts of the US and Europe.

    New York declares a public measles health emergency

    There have been 285 cases in the area since 30 September. Of those infected, 246 were children, New York health commissioner Oxiris Barbot said.

    New York's mayor has declared a public health emergency following a measles outbreak. The emergency warning covers certain postcodes in Brooklyn. All residents in the affected areas have been told to get vaccinated or face a fine.

    New York country massive vaccination campaign following measles outbreak

    Planned for 30 days from midnight Wednesday, the emergency comes during a US surge in measles cases, linked to an anti-vaccination movement.<br />

    The New York county which declared a state of emergency over a measles outbreak is on the “right path” after administering hundreds of vaccinations in two days, the chief of the US district said. Under the emergency, Rockland County banned non-vaccinated minors from public places in a bid to prevent the once-eliminated disease from spreading.
