
U.S. President Donald Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi on Thursday, ending a turbulent 14-month tenure at the helm of the Justice Department. Trump confirmed the move in a Truth Social post in which he called Bondi a Great American Patriot and announced that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche would step in as acting attorney general.

The United States government on Wednesday claimed to have confiscated over US$700 million in assets from Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi in an interview with Fox. These assets reportedly include two luxury planes, multiple houses, a mansion in the Dominican Republic, and a horse farm.

US President Donald Trump announced Monday that the federal government would take control of law enforcement in Washington, D.C. In adition, the National Guard would be deployed to combat what he described as a crime emergency.

The US government has doubled its reward to US$50 million for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Venezuela has agreed with the US Trump administration to resume repatriation flights for deported Venezuelan nationals, officials announced confirming first flights on Sunday. Jorge Rodriguez, Venezuela's National Assembly President said the goal was to “ensure the return of our countrymen with the protection of their human rights.”
