    RAF’s Tranche 1 Typhoons in Falklands until at least 2027

    MoD said that four will remain on quick reaction alert duties with 1435 Flight in the Falkland Islands until 2027

    The United Kingdom has retired from service most of its remaining early model Tranche 1 Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft, retaining only a small number to provide air defense for the country's South Atlantic Overseas Territories, that is the Falkland Islands, according to Janes, a renowned defense and security intelligence website.

    It’s 30 years today since the first Eurofighter Typhoon flight of Development Aircraft 1 (DA1) at Manching in Germany. The first UK development aircraft, DA2, flew a few weeks later at Warton on the 6th April 1994.

    “Falklands remains well protected” says MoD brushing aside London media claims

    The United Kingdom Ministry of Defense (MoD) has rubbished claims that the Falkland Islands have been left without protection, due to the absence of a British warship (frigate or destroyer) permanently based in the south Atlantic. The MoD defended itself following reports that the Falkland Islands were “without the protection of a British frigate or destroyer for the first time since the conflict in 1982”.

    Falklands' salvage of La Sanmartiniana, triggered minor air incident, reports Argentine media

    The loss of the Argentine yacht La Sanmartiniana which was abandoned and left adrift in the South Atlantic, but is currently moored in the Falklands as part of a salvage effort, led to a minor air incident according to Clarin when an RAF Typhoon from MPA warned a private search plane it was approaching Falkland Islands jurisdiction.
