In a private ceremony attended only by relatives and close friends, Brazil's football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known to the world as Pelé, has laid to rest Tuesday afternoon at the Memorial Necropolis Ecumenical in Santos, the seaside city of São Paulo where he rose to stardom.
As a lingering consequence of the covid-19 pandemic and a slowdown of the Chinese economy, cargo throughput in Brazilian ports fell by 3.3% in the first half of the year compared to the same period of 2021. On the other hand, the Port of Santos recorded an increase of 5.6% over the same period. The data are included in a report published by Brazil’s National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq).

Brazil seized 25.3 tons of cocaine bound for Europe and Africa in the first half of 2019, up more than 90 percent on the same period last year, officials said on Monday. Nearly half of the drugs were found at Santos port in southern Brazil, not far from where police recently arrested two men suspected of belonging to Italian mafia 'Ndrangheta'.
