  Labour announces tough new immigration measures “to bring the system back to control”

  

  In a major policy announcement UK PM Sir Keir Starmer has promised the government's new immigration measures will mean net migration falls “significantly” over the next four years. The prime minister unveiled plans to ban recruitment of care workers from overseas, tighten access to skilled worker visas and raise the costs to employers in an effort to curb near record net migration.

  Electronic Travel Authorizations for entry to UK needed as of next 8th January

  

  Residents of the Falkland Islands should be aware that from the 8th January 2025, Electronic Travel Authorizations (ETAs) will be required for all visitors to the UK who do not currently need a Visa for short stays of up to six months, or those who do not already have UK immigration status.

  Tony Blair calls for introduction of new immigration policy that “reasserts control”

  

  Ex prime minister Tony Blair has called on the UK government to introduce a new immigration policy which “reasserts control”. When he was prime minister, Mr. Blair's government - unlike most EU countries - did not apply transitional controls on migrants from eastern Europe, but in a Sunday Times article he said “times were different”.
