Uruguay’s goods’ foreign trade in the twelve months to April 2014 reported a deficit of 1.38 billion dollars with exports totaling 10.42 billion and imports 11.185bn, according to the country’s Chamber of Industries Economic Studies Unit based on data from Customs.
Uruguay’s trade deficit climbed to over a billion dollars in the first four months of the year compared to 975 million dollars in the same period a year ago. So far this year the fall in exports has been stronger than that of imports, which has led to the 1.045 billion dollars deficit according to the latest stats from the Central bank.
Uruguay’s trade deficit soared to 549 million dollars in 2011 because of an increase in imports of 23.6%, far ahead of exports rise, 18.1%, according to the Uruguayan government foreign trade institute Uruguay XXI.
