Argentine Former Foreign Minister remarks his visit to the Islands.

Dr Guido Di Tella, until last year Foreign Minister for Carlos Menem's government in Argentina, has criticised the policy of the new government towards the Falkland Islands. Leading newspaper Clarin quotes Dr Di Tella as accusing the new Foreign Minister, Giavarini, of being hostile towards Islanders and that it will not advance Argentina's claims to sovereignty. Giavarini has responded by saying the seduction policy was not a state policy and was in any case going nowhere. He denies hostility towards the Islanders and says they are British so the Argentine Government will go on dealing with the British Government. Dr Di Tella's public remarks have come just 14 days ahead of his visit to the Islands.

Argentine Turned Away ? Not Politician

An Argentine national was denied entry to the Falklands on Saturday due to the fact that his passport would have expired during his time in the Islands. It has been confirmed that the visitor was not a member of the group of Argentine politicians who also arrived in the Islands on Saturday. Councillor Jan Cheek told FIBS this afternoon that this incident "shows the system is working."

Peter Derham dies.

Peter Derham, who many in the Falklands will remember as being instrumental in the establishment of the Falklands Fisheries has died in England. Peter first came to prominence during the so-called Icelandic cod war and in October 1987 was specifically asked by then Prime-Minister, Margaret Thatcher, to set up a complete system including surface and aerial patrol vessels. Completing the task within three months he then spent seven months in Stanley, with his wife Naomi, running the Fisheries.He was 70 years old.

Tender for Stanley Landscaping Groups

The Falkland Islands Government has released information surrounding the award of the tender for Stanley Landscaping in two groups over three years. The tender has been awarded to Stanley Nurseries and Garden Centre for a total of £37,014.44 for the first year, £36,915.08 for the second year and £41,289.09 for the third year. This makes a total over the three years of £115,21
