Major David Relph from the Royal Artillery has become the new Civilian Military Liaison Representative. Major Philip Mileham, the previous Representative will return to the UK where he will take over as second in command of 1 Royal Horse Artillery in Wiltshire. Speaking of his time here in the Falklands, Major Mileham said he had found the job of liaising with civilians immensely satisfying. And Major Ralph is said to be looking forward to starting his job in the Falklands.

Orkney rings for news

And finally, fellow islanders in the Orkneys contacted FIBS yesterday to find out any news. They were completely snowed in and John Ferguson from BBC Northern Isles thought it would be nice to broadcast a live chat with FIBS for listeners in the Orkneys.

Grants for Off-Street Car Parking

The Environmental Planning Department announced today that residents wishing to build an off-street car parking space will be entitled to a grant of up to £1,000 pounds. Grants may be awarded by the Planning and Building Committee to the owners of any residential property provided that the application meets with the qualifying criteria. It should be noted that grants will not be given retrospectively or those already approved by the planning and building committee.

Cruiseships in

The Seven Seas Navigator is currently in Port William. The Norwegian Dream came into Stanley this morning carrying one thousand, seven hundred and forty eight passengers. The captain of the Norwegian Dream did consider bringing the ship into Stanley Harbour. This would have been one of the biggest ships ever to come through the Narrows, but he has now decided to stay anchored out at Port William, and will be shuttling passengers into Stanley.

Helicopter brings in injured man

A distress call from a Chilean longliner, the Maria Tamara, was routed to the Maritime Centre in Falmouth, UK by telex at one o'clock yesterday afternoon. A crewmember had reportedly fallen down some stairs and fractured his head. As the Maria Tamara was outside the Search and Rescue area, the longliner moved in towards the Falkland Islands and once inside a 150 mile radius, a CI30 Hercules was scrambled to give top cover and locat
