March's Fisheries News.

The total fish catch for the month of March was 81 thousand one hundred and forty eight metric tons. According to Fisheries, this brings the yearly total so far to ninety eight thousand, three hundred and sixty tons. The majority of the catch was Illex followed by blue whiting and then loligo. The bulk of illex was caught by Korea, Blue Whiting by Japan and Loligo by the Falkland Islands. One hundred and forty nine vessels were eligible to fish during March.

Saturday's Sheep Show

The Fourth Rural Business Association Sheep Show was held at Fitzroy on Saturday. Despite the harsh wind, there was a fair turn out and a good day was had by all. Entries were from, Cape Dolphin, Elephant Beach, the National Stud Flock, Goose Green, Mount Kent and Fitzroy. The judges were, Councillor Richard Cockwell, Eric Goss and Owen Summers for classes one to eight which included Mature Ram over 24 months and Shearling Ewe over twelve and under twenty four months of age. Eric Goss tells us what they were looking for Abattoir Manager, Brian Corner judged classes 9 and 10 that for meat production. Brian gives his impression of the quality of sheep. Other special prizes included the most points in sheep classes and champion ram and ewe. ?Guess the weight of the sheep' was also a fun competition entered by all. Tummy Bulger and the bar were there for welcomed refreshments and The Body Shop and Little Chartres were selling their wares. Sheep weren't the only livestock at Fitzroy, there were also some goats on show, we spoke to Bobby Short from Wineglass Station, and they'll be more on the winners in this evening's news. The Sheep Show will be featured on Camp Matters this Friday.

First Day of New Tri-Star Schedules

The new Tri-Star arrival days will come into force today with the flight due in at five past two this afternoon. It will depart tomorrow at 11am and all QRA and Stanley based passengers must check in tomorrow between 8 and 9am.

Financial Times Journalist, Jimmy Burns who recently visited the Falkland Islands also travelled through Argentina where he met with General Mario Benjamin Menendez, commander of the Argentine troops
