Governor Mr. Donald Lamont back in the Islands.

His Excellency the Governor, Mr Donald Lamont arrived back in the Falklands on Wednesday after a brief overseas visit. While away he attended the annual Governors conference in London, which he said covered a lot of business. Following that he then visited Vigo, Spain where he met with partners of local fishing companies.

FIDF Heading to Unlicensed Vessels

Eight members of the Falkland Islands Defence Force, including one reserve are today heading towards several Taiwanese fishing vessels reported to be on the edge of the Falklands Outer Conservation Zone. They left yesterday on board the fisheries patrol vessel Dorada. She is reported to be making slow time due to the bad weather and is expected to arrive in the area, approximately 50 degrees south this afternoon.

Potential Wind Power at Abattoir

Equipment to measure the potential for a wind turbine at the Abattoir will be placed at the site by the FIDC. Tim Cotter, the Energy Advisor said that wind data would need to be collected from the area over a twelve-month period. The equipment takes readings every ten minutes. Although it was suggested that the Department of Agriculture already have 12 weather stations the energy advisor confirmed that the Development Corporation has obtained the equipment they will require to gather the data.

Big changes in appointments at the KEMH

Following the reported increase in the number of Outpatient appointments at the King Edward the Seventh Memorial Hospital Norman McGregor-Edwards, Director of Health Services explains how this will be dealt with. In about a months time, the KEMH will review the changes to the appointments, to see if they are all being used. They will then decide whether the numbers need to be increased or decreased. An audit will also be carried out in mid July. Lasting approximately four weeks this will look at the progress of appointment numbers.
