The 18th. edition of the World Energy Congress, WEC, will be held next October in Buenos Aires, with the participation of at least 3,000 delegates, from the private and public sectors, including five Latinamerican presidents.
This is the first time since 1962 the world's most important concentration of energy experts is held in the Southern Hemisphere. The meeting titled, "Energy markets: the challenge of the new millennium" will be complemented by a "Technical and Commercial Exhibition" with 350 stands from 25 different countries. Experts from sixty different countries and fifteen multilateral energy organizations will participate in the four days round of conferences that begins Monday October 22nd., and extends until October 25th.- The Congress and Exhibition is expected to create 10,000 temporary jobs and a turnover of 30 million US dollars. "WEC meets every three years so the event really attracts the cream of the energy industry plus the exhibition which is expected to bring several thousand experts more", said Carlos Pierro, president of the conference and the organizing board.
Brazilians favour neutralityMore than 75% of Brazilians are opposed to a US military attack on Afghanistan and more than 50% believe their country should remain neutral in the conflict accordin to an opinion poll published last Sunday in Sao Paulo. However 74% believe the United States should find, detain and judge those responsible for the heinous hijack strikes in New York, Washington and Philadelphia that have left over 6,500 dead or missing. The Datafolha poll published in the Folha de Sao Paulo Sunday edition also indicates that 53% of Brazilians believe their country must remain neutral. Brazil pledged its support for the United States, but has no plans to involve troops in the conflict
