The withdrawal of British soldiers from South Georgia and its transfer to the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) has been widely welcomed in the United Kingdom.
A splendid new Visitor Centre will in future welcome visitors to the Falkland Islands on Stanley Jetty. The first stage has been completed, with plans for future extension. It is an initiative of the Falkland Islands Development Corporation of which Tourism Department is a part.
HMS ENDURANCE has now come to the end of her 2000/2001 Antarctic deployment and is preparing to make her journey back home to Portsmouth with a few foreign visits on the way.
