War photosPhotos of Falkland Islanders have appeared in an article written by Raphael Wollmann. He was the only photographer when the Argentines invaded Stanley. It includes pictures of locals in '82 and now. Annette and Jimmy Curtis are show, as well as Shirley and Maisie Hirtle. Photos of Kevin Kilmartin include him in the same shirt he wore in '82. Which, he had dug out of the wardrobe. In Raphael's conclusion, he writes how he can see why the Falklanders were so grateful that Britain had saved them. And those twenty years on he understands why these emotions are still so strong. The article appeared in the Mail on Sunday on the 17th of this month.
BBC homepageAn opinion poll is on the BBC website. They are asking for people to vote on the Falklands under their Communications section on the web. The question is ? Should the UK give up the Falklands? There is a yes box which says ?It should belong to Argentina' and a no box stating "It's British and proud of it'. Nearly 2.000 people, 71% have voted for it to remain British and 29% have hit the other box. Calls into FIBS have complained that the poll is offensive and does not take into account the feelings of Falkland Islanders. The BBC page says it is a poll in light of the 20th Anniversary of the War. It does not however have any political backing ?Defence Secretary, Geoff Hoon only last week reiterated the UK government's commitment to the Falkland Islands.
