Argentina's ban on granting air space clearance to charter flights to the Falklands was discussed last week in the public meeting.

A member of the public asked councillors about the "stalemate" which seems to exist with regard to the ban.

The person asked, "Will we still pursue the second (weekly scheduled) Lan Chile flight? Will we pursue charter flights?"

Councillor Norma Edwards said the Falkland Islands Government will continue to pursue the second flight and the reinstatement of charter flights. She said the Foreign Office will also continue to push for the flights.

When asked about meetings held between the British Embassy in Buenos Aires and the Argentine Government to discuss the ban, Councillor Mike Summers said it was made clear that the Falkland Islands would not discuss any air communications without the ban on charter flights first being dropped. He said, "We didn't want to be bullied."
