Defence Minister José Pampuro said yesterday that a minor diplomatic spat with Great Britain over the actions of a naval ship and helicopter that entered the Malvinas
economic zone last week is a thing of the past and that it has been overcome.
"Great Britain made a verbal complaint that was received by the Foreign Ministry. The navy gave its explanation and I think the conflict has been fixed," said the minister.
A week ago yesterday, the Argentine icebreaker Almirante Irízar and one of its Sea King helicopters challenged by radio a number of vessels fishing approximately ten miles inside the zone, including jiggers and one or two Spanish trawlers.
The ship remained in the zone for just under 24 hours.
The British Embassy in Buenos Aires was then instructed by the Foreign Office in London to seek an explanation from the Argentine government.
