A cool but calm and clear day greeted members of the public who gathered to witness the annual Liberation Day parade.

Liberation Day commemorates the freeing of the Falkland Islands from Argentine occupation in 1982.

The parade followed a commemorative service in Christ Church Cathedral.

The June 14 church service began with the carriage of the Book of Remembrance into the Cathedral by WO2 Adam Cockwell of the Falkland Islands Defence Force.

The service included lessons from His Excellency the Governor, Mr Howard Pearce, representatives of the Armed Forces and Krysteen Ormond, who represented the Falkland Islands community.

At the conclusion of the service, parade troops assembled outside the church before marching to the Liberation Monument where a large crowd had gathered.

The parade began with the arrival of the Commander of British Forces (BFSAI), Air Commodore Richard Lacey, followed shortly after by His Excellency the Governor.

A Service of Remembrance took place before the Lord's Prayer was recited.

The Last Post signaled the beginning of a minute's silence, the end of which was marked by Reveille.

Wreaths were laid by a number of individuals, including the Governor, military representatives, veterans of the 1982 war and family of soldiers who lost their lives.

The gathering was blessed then the Royal Salute was given before the end of the parade was marked with a march past.

The day's official commemorations were rounded off with a civic reception in the Town Hall, attended by both civilian and military members of the community.
