Chile recorded this year the lowest September consumer prices index since 1931, that is 0,1% with an accumulated nine months rate of 2,3% and 1,5% during the last twelve months according to the latest release from the Chilean Statistics Office.
During last September Home equipment dropped 0,4%, with Clothing, Food and Housing increasing 0,5%, 0,1% and 0,1%.
Transport, Health, Education, Leisure and Others remained unchanged.
Of the twenty items which make up the basic Consumer Prices Index, fuel and cooking gas registered the biggest drops during September, in spite of an annual steady increase.
This is closely related to the revaluation of the Chilean currency that has been consistently stronger against the US dollar and this Tuesday dropped below the 600 pesos benchmark.
Regarding transabale goods, (those which are exposed to international competition) the index contracted 0,2% while for the non transable (non exposed to international competition) the index grew 0,3%.
The last September subjacent index which does not include fresh fruit and vegetables, and fuel, increased 0,1%.
