Carter praises Argentina's regional stabilization role

Former United States president and Nobel Peace Prize Jimmy Carter praised Argentina's commitment to peace adding that together with Brazil has the responsibility of “maintaining stability in the region”.

A visiting delegation from Argentina headed by vice president Daniel Scioli, opposition Senators and businessmen met with Mr. Carter in his farm in Plains, Georgia asking him to help promote the "new reality of a recovered Argentina".

"Argentina and Brazil have a responsibility maintaining stability in the region", said Mr. Carter who in 2002 was granted the Peace Nobel for his efforts in finding peaceful solutions to international conflicts.

According to Argentine Senate sources in the meeting vice president Scioli informed of the measures taken to help with the economic, political and social recovery of Argentina.

Mr. Scioli also thanked former president Jimmy Carter for his invaluable role in defending human rights and promoting democratic recovery in Argentina when he was in the White House, 1977/81.

Mr. Carter said Argentina has always been "close to his heart" and announced the Carter Centre would be sending a representative to the Summit of the Americas hosted by Argentina and scheduled for next November in Mar del Plata. Other issues addressed in the meeting were the situation in Bolivia, human rights, governance and public health and education.

Mr. Carter collaborated with the Argentine delegation is fixing appointments with prominent business leaders from the southeast of United States, basically in Atlanta, Georgia.
