Falkland Islands farmers begin this week in Stanley a full programme of events in the framework of the Farmers Week.

The Rural Business Association (RBA) Annual General Meeting began proceedings Monday afternoon followed by an Environmental Planning meeting about disposal of rubbish, and a meeting about wool warehouse operation for the coming season with Byron McKay Port Services.

The Falkland Islands Government Taxation Department begin the day on Tuesday with a short presentation and a question and answer session, followed by a talk on Camp road expansion and maintenance by Bob Hancox. The morning concludes with meetings with Councillors and the Governor.

In the afternoon, the Falkland Islands Meat Company (FIMCo) will hold a review of last season and provide information for next season before the Falkland Islands Development Corporation (FIDC) concludes the day's events with a look at the schemes on offer at the moment.

Wednesday and Thursday will both be hosted by the Department of Agriculture (DoA) and include a wide variety of presentations and meetings with lunch provided on Wednesday by the DoA and on Thursday by FIMCo.

Friday morning will begin with a short meeting with Karin Vogel, a representative for the Chilean agricultural supplies company Covepa. The Falkland Islands Tourist Board will also host a meeting on Friday outlining tourism opportunities for Camp residents, followed by meetings with Island Shipping and Civil Aviation.

The morning concludes with an ?End of week round up' meeting before a lunch at the KEMH with a chance to meet Nikki Osborne, the new Director of Health Services. Lastly, there will be fire training at Stanley Airport on Friday afternoon which brings the week to a close.

The social programme for the week begins with the RBA Farmers Week Party in the Narrows Bar. There will be a buffet and drinks at Hillside Camp on Tuesday and a reception at Government House on Wednesday with both events being by invitation only. An exhibition of Sven Gillsater's photographs will open at the Jetty Visitor's Centre on Friday and the week will finish with the Camp Education fundraising dance in the FIDF Hall on Friday night.
