Malvinas landing to be marked

The landing of Argentine troops on the British-controlled Malvinas Islands ordered by the then dictator Leopoldo Fortunato Galtieri on April 2, 1982, will be marked today by a series of commemorative events throughout the country.

April Second, an anniversary remembered, but not celebrated, in the Falkland Islands

“It's not a particularly celebratory event.” This was the view expressed by Falkland Island Government spokesman, Cllr.Mike Summers, when asked if he and his colleagues had made any plans to celebrate the 24th anniversary of what Falkland Islanders regard as the illegal invasion of their country by Argentinean forces on April 2nd 1982.

Falklands' war, a crime committed by cowardly generals

Argentina's war with Britain over the Falkland Islands was a crime committed by a cowardly military dictatorship, but Argentina will never abandon its claim to sovereignty of the islands, said President Nestor Kirchner in a ceremony to mark the 24th anniversary of the Argentine landing April 2, 1982.

Mexico, US, Canada pledge closer ties

Mexican President Vicente Fox held his swan-song summit with the leaders of the United States and Canada in Cancun Friday, and expressed optimism that one of the main objectives he set for himself upon taking office more than five years ago - a better deal for undocumented Mexicans in the U.S. - is at hand.
