The widow of the paratroop commander, Lieutenant Colonel H. Jones, killed in the battle for Goose Green in 1982, has called for this week's 25th anniversary Falklands War commemorations in Britain to concentrate on pride in victory rather than the personal grief of the families of the dead.
Her husband was awarded Britain's highest bravery award, the Victoria Cross, for his courage and leadership at Goose Green. Mrs Sara Jones is to read the lesson at a remembrance service at the Falklands Memorial Chapel in Pangbourne, Berkshire, to be attended by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh and the Prime Minister. She hoped the anniversary events would celebrate the achievement of the armed forces rather than the personal legacy of war. She said: "I have a great feeling of pride in what was achieved not only in my husband's case but in the extraordinary victory in which all our loved ones participated". Harold Briley, London
