    Spain needs more immigrants to sustain economic growth

    Immigrants who live and work in Spain generated over half of the country's economic growth in the last five years, according to the report “España 2007” from the Encuentro Foundation which estimates that foreigners living in Spain represent 10% of total population, almost 4.5 million people.

    President Oscar Arias announced Wednesday that Costa Rica has broken diplomatic ties with Taiwan and established relations with China, delivering a blow to Taipei?s fragile international standing. Arias said Costa Rica needed to strengthen ties with China to attract foreign investment.

    Argentina estimates annual inflation in the range of 9.5 to 10%

    Argentine Economy minister Felisa Miceli estimated inflation this year will range between 9.5 and 10%, following the release of the May index, 0.4%. She also announced that the issuing of a bond in local currency to soak liquidity from the money market was very successful

    UK interest rate unchanged at 5.5% but inflation still above target

    The Bank of England left Thursday UK interest rates unchanged at 5.5% but analysts say a rate rise later this year remains likely. UK rates have been increased four times since August last year in an attempt to rein in inflation.

    Desire Petroleum plc announces that on 3 June 2007, Wavefield InSeis ASA commenced a contract to acquire high resolution 2D shallow-seismic data, at a number of potential drilling sites, on its licences in the North Falkland Basin, using the seismic vessel “Bergen Surveyor”. This vessel has just finished work for Falklands Oil and Gas Limited on their licences to the south of the Falkland Islands.
