TWO hundred and fifty British Falklands War veterans landed at Mount Pleasant Airport at 9am this morning. The group visit under the auspices of the charity the South Atlantic Medal Association (82).
Describing the mood of the veterans as a generally, "?jolly and excited," Falkland Islander, Councillor Janet Robertson added, "?but there was also a strong emotional element and in fact I felt very emotional myself watching them arrive." The group were quickly offloaded and transported to the Falkland Islands Defence Force Head Quarters in Stanley by coach, where they were processed through Customs. The next step was a briefing on their schedule for the week, before they were met by their island hosts. The majority of the veterans will be residing in the houses of Falkland Islanders. This evening the 'pilgrims' will attend a public reception at the FIDF Hall; an opportunity for as many Islanders as possible to meet the group. Their packed schedule includes trips around the islands, wreath laying ceremonies, a Service of Remembrance on Sunday, receptions at Government House and a traditional Falkland Island dance on Friday night. The veterans will depart on Wednesday November 14. Lisa Johnston SeAled PR - Stanley
