A new publication by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) shows that global spending on education is concentrated in just a few countries, with the education budget of a single country like France or Italy outweighing education spending across all of sub-Saharan Africa.

Argentine hake catches estimated below 300.000 tons

Hake catches in Argentina are forecasted to be below 300.000 tons since season landings up to the first week of October totaled 210.000 tons. If confirmed this would be the lowest catch since 2003, when landings reached 334.000 tons.

600,000 Skiers on Chile's slopes this season

This past winter's unusually cold weather in Chile's central valley had at least one benefit – the mountains were covered in snow, attracting some 600,000 skiers and snowboarders. This figure represents an 11 percent increase compared to the previous season when 522,000 visitors hit the slopes.

Copper at its highest in 41 years and keeps rising

Current boom copper demand has catapulted the value of the metal to its highest price in more than 40 years. The Chilean Copper Commission reported that the average copper price through September this reached 3.27 US dollar per pound, highest average price since 1966, when the commodity averaged US$3.63 for the year.
