Group of British politicians to visit Falklands next month

Four members of the British Parliament are to visit the Falkland Islands in February within their role as Commonwealth Parliamentary United Kingdom (CPA UK) Branch Members.

Jeff Ennis MP (Labour) the Delegation Leader will be accompanied by Paul Holmes (Liberal Democrat), Lord Jones of Cheltenham (Liberal Democrat) and Lord McColl of Dulwich CBE (Conservative). Lord McColl of Dulwich will also be accompanied by Lady McColl. "The aim of the visit is to get an overview of the Falkland Islands and the current issues affecting them," commented a spokesperson for the Councillors Office in Stanley. The Falkland Islands Government wishes to brief the delegates on the Islands today; constitutional change, development plans, environmental issues and military aspects During their week in the Falklands beginning February 13, the delegation will meet with the Falkland Islands Government Chief Executive Dr Tim Thorogood, Councillors, Heads of Government Departments and Islanders. The delegation will be met at RAF Mount Pleasant by The Commander British Forces Falkland Islands, The Speaker of the House Lewis Clifton, Councillor Richard Cockwell and Claudette Anderson MBE. Falklands Councillors Cockwell and Stevens will depart for the CPA British Islands and Mediterranean Regional meetings in Gibraltar in May, and two councillors are to attend the CPA's 54th conference in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia in August.
