Hollywood famous star Julia Roberts arrived Wednesday afternoon in Chile surrounded by utmost discretion and accompanied by her three children, a friend and a member of her staff, reported Santiago's Channel 13.
The 2001 Oscar winning actress for her role in "Erin Brockovich" arrived in a direct flight from United States and after checking through migration and customs together with her party boarded a private plane to the south of Chile. According to Channel 13, Ms. Roberts is staying at the Hacienda Riñihue in southern Chile, belonging to US tycoon Douglas Tompkins who is an outspoken environmentalist. He has been accused by different Chilean groups of impeding "progress" in the vast tracks of pristine land and wildlife he possesses and by more nationalist groups of being a "threat" to Chilean national security. There's no idea how long the renowned actress will be staying in Chile. According to the Chilean press she's the latest of a long list of Hollywood luminaries who have chosen Chilean Patagonia to spend time and rest. Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore were recently involved in the filming of a program for the US channel MTV. Other well known names include Clint Eastwood, Sophia Loren, Anthony Quinn, Kevin Costner, Diana Ross, Michael Douglas, Tom Selleck, Richard Gere and Robert Redford.
