In the last four years, wealth controlled by Chile's richest families grew by 45% to 71 billion US dollars, according to a study done by Chilean financing evaluation company LarrainVial, consulting company Accenture and the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez.

"The evident economic growth Chile experienced in the past decade is reflected in these new statistics" said Accenture's Diego Pleszwoski. Roughly 82.000 people are considered among Chile's richest citizens. Thirty-eight percent are families that own traditional companies, 17% are families that have inherited wealth and the rest are individual entrepreneurs. Within this group of Chile's most rich, there are great differences. The first and biggest group consists of 71,000 families worth between 100,000 and one million US dollars. That segment grew by 30% in the past year. The second group, 8,400 families owning between one million and 30 million US dollars, grew by 8.7%. The last and richest group, 324 families, is worth even more. The Santiago Times
