FALKLANDS councillors will use the British Government Party Conferences to remind politicians of Argentina's continued campaign of “economic terrorism” against the Falklands, confirmed Falklands Councillor the Honourable Dr. Andrea Clausen.

Two Falklands councillors will attend the conferences held in Manchester and Birmingham in the UK at the end of the month. Councillor Clausen told Mercopress, " With regard to Argentina we intend to press the message on British politicians that Argentina continues to interfere where they can in our fishing and mineral and hydrocarbons sectors in their campaign of economic terrorism. "More generally we will take the opportunity to keep people up-to-date in terms of developments in fishery, tourism and mineral and hydrocarbon infrastructure." The Falkland Islands Government Representative in London, Sukey Cameron and the Islands Public Relations companies will have the task of ensuring the most influential individuals pass through the Falklands stand in order for them to be briefed by councillors. Ms Cameron said, "Given that there will be a General Election in the next 18, or so, months, it gives us an excellent opportunity to meet the prospective candidates. We expect to meet key members of Government, including the Prime Minister, at the Labour Conference and Shadow Cabinet members and the Opposition Leader in Birmingham." The stand will be staffed by Councillors Dr. Andrea Clausen and Ian Hansen and Ms Cameron. The Labour Party Conference is in Manchester and runs from September 20 to 24. The Conservative Party Conference is in Birmingham and runs from September 28 to October 1. This year will be the Falkland Islands Government's twenty first year exhibiting at the Labour and Conservative Party Conferences, "this makes us one of the longest standing exhibitors at conference," said Ms Cameron. She explained, "The aim of exhibiting at conference is to update those attending on developments in the Islands, make new contacts and renew old ones. "We always get an excellent reception at both conferences, and there is a good deal of interest in the Islands. It gives us the opportunity to reach a large number of people – Members of Parliament, constituents, party members, journalists, diplomats and other exhibitors – in a relatively short time. "We will be building on the interest shown in the Islands during the 25th Anniversary year last year." Lisa Johnston – SeAled PR - Stanley
