Chilean president Michelle Bachelet has been invited to visit the United States in the coming months by her counterpart Barack Obama. The two leaders had a long telephone conference and analyzed bilateral relations and exchanged ideas about the regional and world situation, according to the Chilean Executive.

"President Obama extended an invitation to President Bachelet to make an official visit to United States in the coming months", said an official release from La Moneda. During the exchange both leaders talked about the current global and regional economic scenario and about the coming summit of the Americas to be held next April in Trinidad Tobago. The April summit will mark the first meeting of the new US president with his Latinamerican counterparts. "President Obama also mentioned he was much impressed by Chile's progress in the last few years" and congratulated President Bachelet for the country's strong democratic institutions, added the release. Both presidents agreed to continue strengthening the bilateral relation. The phone call last Saturday caught President Bachelet when she was getting ready for her annual February holidays. Earlier in the day the Chilean president had a long conversation with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
