French President Nicholas Sarkozy promised his Brazilian counterpart Lula da Silva, that all the families of the victims of the Air France 447 flight would be compensated through monetary means.
The French President made me a promise that all Brazilian and French families will me compensated by the French government, said Lula da Silva, according to Brazilian media reports. Sarkozy made the promise after meeting with the Brazilian President in Geneva.
Lula da Silva also said that French authorities will continue to look for the aircraft's black boxes, which are fundamental to the investigation.
However, the search becomes more and more difficult with the passing of time because the black boxes give off radar signals for a maximum period of time. A French nuclear submarine, plus mini subs and sophisticated highly sensible equipment from the United States is being towed in the area with the purpose of “catching” underwater signals.
Meantime the last bodies recovered from the sea are being transferred to a Brazilian Navy frigate which will be arriving Tuesday to the island of Fernando de Noronha for a preliminary identification and then on to mainland Recife for the forensic tests.
The Air France Airbus A330/200 plunged to the Atlantic Ocean on June first while flying from Rio do Janeiro to Paris with the loss of 228 lives. The causes of the accident are still unknown although there are some speculations about possible failure of speed sensors.
However Airbus called for patience and prudence, saying that there is nothing certain so far about the accident, and most probably it was triggered by an accumulation of reasons.
