Jul 02nd, 2009 - 01:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0Thank you for promoting this idea. Uruguay is worthy of an investment of interest and support on the part of the U.S. -- as Uruguay is a model country among Latin American countries -- stable, democratic, socially progressive, etc. Prosperity resultant from beneficial trade relations with the U.S. would demonstrate the rewards available to countries that seek to promote values similar to those embraced by the U.S.
This is a very sad day for Uruguay when it is being lumped in with other pathetic, basket case economies and given unilateral tariff preferences into the U.S. market. Before jumping to accept this gift Montevideo would be wise to consider its unilateral nature (which means it can just as easily be withdrawn) and will not avoid successful Uruguayan exports from eventually having to contend with allegations of dumping, etc. from U.S. competitors.
Jul 02nd, 2009 - 05:19 am - Link - Report abuse 0Tim you are totally right. The problem with third world countries like Uruguay, Argentina, Chile..... is that there are a lot of suckers that feels living in a first world countrie every time the us says something positive. Its like a kid fight, fighting for the fathers preference.
Jul 03rd, 2009 - 10:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Im still wondering what cost Argentina had to be an extra-Nato alie.
The folks in the USA would benefit from the excellent beef and wine, thus bolstering the agraian exports from Uruguay to a new level. The addtional exposure would bring additional interest in business development. This would be mutually beneficial. Luis, to lump Uruguay, Chile, and Argentina into the Third World is a disservice to the region. Bolivia, Paraguay, and others truly classify as third world. Argentina on the other hand, in spite of the K's hegamony, ranks in the second world for me.
