Daily flights Buenos Aires/Ushuaia starting October

Ushuaia has become the main port for leisure cruises to Antarctica

LAN Chile’s Argentine subsidiary announced an increase in flights from Buenos Aires to the Argentine port city of Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego to meet peak season demand for leisure cruises to Antarctica.

From October, 2009, until 30 April, 2010, the airline will operate daily flights to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world and the closest port for the south polar cruises.

Three of the weekly LAN flights to Ushuaia – each Tuesday, Friday and Sunday – will operate nonstop from Aeroparque Airport, Buenos Aires.

Four flights – each Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday - will operate via Calafate, in Argentine Patagonia, the gateway to the Glaciers National Park, home to 47 glaciers.

Outside the peak cruising season, Ushuaia still has much to offer, including the Tierra del Fuego national park, rich with waterfalls, glaciers, forests and wildlife, and the ski-fields of Cerro Castor, a short drive from the city centre.

From the city there is also a 100 minute scenic rail journey aboard the “End Of The World Train”, while or for those who prefer a different style of “adventure”, Ushuaia is a tax free zone with great local and imported shopping bargains.
