Even when dove hunting in Uruguay is open all year round, dove hunters should know that the best time of the year for this activity is September through April, spring-summer season in the southern hemisphere.

The species is considered a pest in the country because of the damage they cause to grain crops such as sunflower, sorghum, soybean, etc.; thus, hunters should be aware they are always welcome by farmers when they show up with their guns!!

Dove hunting therefore contributes to control the population of doves that in Uruguay have a dwindling number of natural enemies.

Only a few silver foxes can penetrate the thick and thorny bushes and shrubs in the indigenous woods alongside streams and river banks where doves roost, but this is not enough.

This fun type of hunting practiced next to roosting areas or in busy fly paths which bring together large numbers of doves provide hunters a wonderful opportunity since there is no limit to the number of shells fired.

Hunters are set up in blinds with comfortable stools or covered by natural bushes and tall grass depending on the hunting area used that day.

And what makes it so much fun?

Flocks are so large and fast sometimes that it becomes very difficult to pick a target and all that non-stop action makes it really entertaining.

Once you get on them you do not want to stop!

All this dove-hunting experience can be enjoyed with Black River Outfitters who can organize your trip from the moment you arrive at our settlement.

But there are also other adventure options such as a Golden Dorado fishing trip along the Uruguay River, which is the natural western border between Uruguay and Argentina.

And if your prefer sea fishing during summer we can organize a combo to visit Uruguay’s southeastern Atlantic beaches in Maldonado and Rocha (including renowned and enjoyable destinations such as Piriapolis, Punta del Este and La Paloma).

Uruguay is a safe destination where foreigners are warmly received and has hosted hunters from all over the world for more than 25 years.

It is a country open to most of the hunting, fishing or sight-seeing adventures you can imagine for a moderate climate territory with large expanses of land.

At Black River Outfitters we do our best to make sure that your experience with us turns into “a trip of your lifetime”.

And please REMEMBER: Our dove hunters must never miss, we can’t let farmers down!!!!
