United States will recognize the Honduran elections results regardless of whether former President Manuel Zelaya is returned to office and regardless of whether the vote on reinstatement takes place before or after November 29th, according to Republican Senator Jim DeMint who claims he was given guarantees to that effect by the US State Department. Disclaimer & comment rulesI see De Mint remains floating somewhere in outer space. Neither the USA nor any other country in the Western Hemisphere will recognize the results of the November 29 elections in Honduras if both sides to the recently signed October 30th agreement do not adhere to its terms. Someone ought to put this nit wit Senator in his place. He has no right to be formulating his own foreign policy that contradicts or undermines the one formulated by the elected President of the United States of America and his cabinet.
Nov 07th, 2009 - 09:16 am - Link - Report abuse 0Tim you are wrong about that...they just announced(the US Dept of State, Craig Kelly) that they WILL recognize the elections as long as Micheletti follows the agreement and that is regardless of what Zelaya follows...Zelaya has been thrown under the bus...the US would not be caught dead denying citizens the right to vote.
