In fact, Haig was responsible for encouraging the Argentine milicos to think they could keep the islands and stay in power in perpetuity, at least as the power behind the throne. He deserved prison every bit as much as Videla and Massera.

I don't celebrate anyones' passing. We are all mortals, but I will say this. The world has one less Anglophile to worry about!
I am saving a champagne bootle in my Frig though for when Gabriel comes calling on Maggie.

I resent the name “mediator” because in strict terms, he did not perform the role of an independent mediator. Mediators seek that the parties design their own solutions, and never propose one solution of their own. According to his own biography, he acknowledged that he needed to convince the Argentines of the fastest way to leave the Islands...He was oblivious to the reasons of the argentines (whatever they were) A good mediator inclcudes a piece of each side's proposal into the final agreement, but it was clear that he wanted to finish the conflict by controlling one side's behavior. End of negotiation! This is what you get when you put an ex-militar person used to authority, “I have the decision-making power here” to mediate. They simply can't mediate because they don't know mediation.

Why was it called mediation? ah, what do you want, the real name was “coaxing a side to yield to the other” but it doesn't sound so good....

I will say a facebook group phrase:

“I can't wait for Margaret Tatcher to die, so that I can p*ss on her grave!”
