US President Barack Obama will meet Tuesday with President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit being held in Washington. According to the White House, Obama will gather for roughly a half hour with the Argentine Head of State at 4:00 pm local time.
This meeting, Obama's only bilateral gathering with a Latin American leader during the summit, will be held behind closed doors, the White House informed. The heads of state from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico are present at the summit.
Immediately after the reunion, the US President will offer a press conference in order to inform on the conclusions of the Nuclear Security Summit, which debates measures to be taken to guarantee the security of radioactive material in the next four years and to avoid, in this way, said material from falling into the hands of terrorist groups.
CFK, who arrived in Washington Thursday night, has taken advantage of her stay in the US capital to visit the US Chamber of Commerce and to meet with Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latin American woman to be named to the highest US court.
The meeting between both leaders takes place a few weeks after Mrs. Kirchner assured that expectations have not been met, in reference to the hope Latin America had that Obama would initiate a new relationship with the continent.
During the speech criticizing the leader, CFK indicated that in Latin America we thought that after decades of what was a very strong and tragic interference in the region, we had generated expectations, a very big hope.

Apr 13th, 2010 - 03:20 pm 0I can see the outcome now. The Plastic President will spend half an hour with Obama, they will talk about this and that, nothing concrete. She will mention the Falklands in passing. Obama will say - yes I know where they are. That will be the end of it but she will have interviews with the Argie Press and she will somehow twist it all to say that Obama supports Argentina's claim. Just like Argentina did when they asked to talk to the head of the UN a few weeks ago. They say that they have support but when you dig deeper you find that they haven't just exagerated, they have lied!
