Brazil is the 500 pound gorilla of the Mercosur, and with their large subsidies financed with petro-dollars, they can flood any market in the Mercosur. When I lived in Bolivia they flooded it iwith cheap sugar and almost crashed the local ability to produce sugar cane.

Is it me or is Argentina picking fights with states 100 times more powerful than itself?
We had a trade war China over Soya, and now a trade war Brazil and threats of a trade war with the EU?

    @Rhaurie,

Why are you surprise? Weak countries cannot do that, Brasil before been a emerging power also was doing this all the time, US do this all the time, Europe, China.

We are not like Britain that needs to import everything even money now to keep its economy alive.

If you are and independent nation you can do that and certainly would be a fair arrangement with Brazil.

I cannot say the same with the Europeans we don’t need them.

    C'est la vie.

Did you see the Danny Bhoy performance in Australia?

Argentina will back down, they can't afford to limit imports of food. Food inflation is running 20-40% depending on the products and they are already running out of sugar in some stores in BA this won't last long.

mmmm..subsidies with Petro Dollars? Bubba, where are you from huh? You confuse yourself with Venezuela who killing itself by throwing away Petro Dollars and with EU and US/Canadian Subsidies (funded by our tax dollars, what is a crime). Brazil has no subsidies, but they do give their businesses “tax credit” that makes them work more efficient. Argentina, can't do that, because they don't have the money for those programs and are simply protectionists who are destroying their pesos, by creating/adding inflation..of course in the “books” you won't read that, but hey, those che idiots believe everything even their own lies. The Smart argies are gone or still live there but their money is outside the country and have a second home somewhere else if they really need the get hell out of there. Brazil will eventually win this battle, because it's what fredbc types..they can't afford to limit import foods! Their production isn't sufficient enough thanks to their government grabbing and big spending, keep on running deficits and keep on borrowing to fund it..while Brazil is gaining by taking your hard assets (they don't want your lousy pesos)..laugh. Oh well..some people might think...hey that's also happening the great USA. Yep it does, is it the end of the world? nope, after we crash, the sun will rise and will be fine and have a bigger chance to have a small government, lower taxes and and more freedoms. I hope we still have Disney world (so long the Chinese don't own it). The Che idiots could do the same thing after they defaulted in 2001, but no, they still want everything for free..that's why they are still Che idiots and never move up or become prosperous like Chile, or even Peru and will never match with their biggest rival, Brazil, who will always dominate them in a nice way of course (That's what's happening now).

Brazil would also be more than happy to enter into a refining deal with the eventual oil producers that extract raw crude from the Falkland Islands waters.

All the vocal support has remaind vocal with no written and ratified resolution at the recent South America nation group hug meeting. Pity really as Argentina could do with the business but they have a habit of making life uncomfortable for private enterprise, much to the average Argentine's detriment. Politicians ehh?

There is no any ofitial report yet about a soposed restriction for some products, then, it's just a mediatic speculation.
On the other hand, for all those imbecills who like to predict economic catastrophes for my country all the time, i would like to tell you that we are growing since 2003 with a hight level of inflation, it's a an important problem wich the government does not want to recognize, however our salarys increased everyyear even during the crisis, we didn't lost our capacity to consume in absolute, private stadistics affirm this theory too.
Beside our central bank has more than 48 thousand millions dollars to stop any stampide in the price of the dollar, we wont have any hiperinflation like in 1989, our reserves are enough to controll the dollar, i repeat that even the private stadistics hold this assertion too, i must say that i dont believe in our indec neather, that's why i recur all the time to the private stadistics.
Beside since the nationalization of our pension sistem, we lost more than 40000 thousands millions dollars, however our economy didn't colapse, in others times of the country, for much less than this, a couple of presidents had to anticipate their out of the government.
Obviously we are not disnayland, or a developed nation like some idiots say, we still have many serious problems, but in many aspects our situation improuved.
On the other hand, for all those who are so in love with brasil, chile, peru, etc etc, and underestimate our achievements, i will tell you that a few days ago, i could read an exhaustive inform about the social situation of argentina made by private stadisctic that are oponent to the government, affirmed that we have the lowest social unequality since 1986, beside that inform compared our sitation with all the rest of the latin countrys, and it finally said that argentina is again the equalest nation from latin america, it had lost that place in 1994 with all the regresive policys from menem and others.

Nicholas, Brazil uses their petro dollars the same way any other oil exporting country.. do you think the Ethanol they sell really is that cheap? They use petro money to gain hard currencies.. that is the way of the world. Scream protecionist all you want, but the only imperial power in the hemisphere, yes Brazil snatched land from most of her neighbors, subsidizes or dumps things like their aircraft exports, paper products, copper, orange juice, sugar and staples. This, all the while filing hundreds of suits against other countries to protect their internal production of clothing, consumables and durable goods. Dumping is defined by selling or exporting products at a cost less than production. To do this the government must make up the differences, this coming from taxes and its currency reserves garnered from petro exports. By the time my company imports our products into Brazil, we have paid import duty, customs fees, and special taxes to the tune of 52% of the value CIF. This is standard on any import that may, operative word may, be produced locally. There are custom mills and foundries that stand idle, but because the capacity is there, albeit not able to meet our qaulity standards, we pay addtional import duty..

About your health sistem, i have no dout that your sistem is better than ours, your comparison is pathetic, you can compare the u.s.a with argentina, your country is the most powerfull nation of the world, and it has a hight quality of life, my country is a development nation, it joins the group of the countrys with hight human development, but it's imposible that it's compared with the u.s.a.
The only one aspect that is better in my country than in yours, is that in argentina, every poor people, or all those who dont have any social safe, can be treated free in our public hospitals, and they can get free medicines, because there is a plan for then, beside the medicines of hiv are totally free for everyone in argentina, every medicines are paid by the ministery of health, anyway the public hospitas are allways colapsed, but the level of the profesionals is admirable and recognized by many countrys, in fact so many people comes to argentina from foreign countrys, specially those from the border, to be operated, and they dont pay absolutly anything, THE HEALTH SISTEM IS NOT A BUSSINES FOR MOST US, IT'S A RIGHT.
If you want to know about the true stadistics of argentina, i made a commentary about it, in this page, it's the number 11, you will find there stadistics from the private sector.

That means, you have to take your own responsibility, but since you socialists lovers want everything for free and enjoy cheating the system (what never works), your nation will always be on the spot where it always was..down under or above in the list of defaulting nations. By the way, everything what you typed about your growing economy can be easy debunked. A good one for you here..Economies don't grow with inflation going up. I hope the second for you own good so we can teach you how to be educated and more smart. Cheers.

    @axel arg

You surely never have been in USA mate.

The health service in USA is one of the worst in the world and worse than the Argentinean.

If you don’t have money you are not covered by any means a finger re-implant that you can get for free in a public Argentina’s hospital in USA cost U$s 12.000 to U$s 25.000 for each finger

A heart operation will cost more than U$s 600.000 if you are not covered. And to be covered you have to buy an insurance plan. Like “obra social privada” in Argentina and they are very expensive.

This are prices like in Hospitals with the quality of Fernandez in Buenos Aires.

Why do you think in US there are 50 million people without any coverage?

Why do you think Americans go abroad to find better and cheap health service?

They are not UK that has an acceptable health service free like here.

An acceptable insurance coverage (Private obra social) cost in US U$s 320 per month.

UP middle class people get ruined in US if they got a chronic disease.

See the documentary made by Moore about the health service in USA and later come back.

Axel: All I can say about Argentina's free health care and schooling is you get what you pay for! You forget I lived there, have you ever been to the US? Have you ever been to one of our Hospitals? I went to a Hospital while I was living in BA, I had a piece of glass in my foot, it was gross, paint peeling on the walls, dirty old floors, old old old equipment it was scary and I left. Believe me there is not anyone from the USA going to Argentina for a heart transplant. We have kings and presidents coming to the MAYO Clinic to get treated for cancer, big operations or problems and lots of Canadians because they can't get treated at home.

Nico: Go away retard, if you can't read and only watch youtube you need to stop posting. You posts are neither funny nor informative.

“Argentina’s public health system has all but collapsed,” says Nicolea. “People who do not have social security or health coverage with BMM pay US$ 50–150 per month for prepaid medical services. Most of our clients cannot afford this amount because they earn around US$ 500 per month.” http://www.who.int/bulletin/volumes/86/1/08-030108/en/index.html

Allow me to explain you who was Dr. Rene Favaloro.
Dr. Favaloro an Argentinean doctor born in La Plata (now is dead), was a cardiac surgeon who created the technique for coronary bypass surgery. Also became the first surgeon to perform a coronary bypass surgery on a patient suffering from Coronary artery disease in the world (aorto-coronario) 1967.

He also founded the Favaloro Fundation in Buenos Aires in 1975. And his foundation provides free heart transplants, bypass, surgery or whatever is need for free to anyone that is not able to pay (poor).
You will get the best in the world for free much better than your famous Cleveland clinic (USA).

Dr. Leota from Entre Rios (Argentina) inventor of the first total artificial heart in the world.

We also have private insurance coverage (our system is a mixture) and the start for 15 US dollars (crap)

Axel: What you don't understand is in the USA a hospital can not turn away a patient in an emergency they will be treated. Most local governments also have wellness centers for other medical problems. This is never talked about in the international/liberal media.
We have a fundamental disagreement on what we would consider human rights. I don't think the Obama health plan will ever be put into action. It is too socialist for the US , most people don't like it or want it. I am sure it will be dismantled after the 2012 elections. Government run healthcare dives up costs and drives out innovation. It not like you see a lot of new medical technology coming out of Mexico do you?

Nico: Provide a link for your Katrina rant, I don't think we allowed any people or products in from Argentina or anywhere else. From what I remember I think you offered and we turned it down. You are also very uninformed on what really happened in NOLA and it is too long a story to get into here. Basically you can blame the local government for the mess, they took federal money to fix the levees and didn't do it and then they did not allow the federal government permission to enter their territory for a long time. We have laws and procedures here that have to be followed and they didn't do it so their people suffered. Take a look at what happened in Mississippi during Katrina, MS is a well organized state they didn't have near the problems NOLA had and it never gets into the news.

FREDBDC, If all your people can have acces to the health sistem, that's a great news, on the other hand i dont know if the reform to the sistem is to much socialist or not for the u.s.a., the point is that millions of people in your country dont have any social safe, but if you assure that all those people can be treated in the hospitals, that's fair.
I respect you vition about the human rights, but i dont agree in absolut, the health sistem must be for everyone, you still didn't answer my question, what would you think, if you loss your job, and you have no many to pay your social safe, and you are diagnosticated of cancer, dont you think that for a human reason you should bes treated free in the public hospitals, i really think so, becaue i take the place of those people who dont have the same benefits than me, beside i dont know what could happen to me in the future, maybe some day i live that situation too, and i will need to be treated in the public hospital free, because i have no money.
Beside what kind of liberal media are you talking about?, that's just a joke, the media in the whole world is only funtional to economic interests, the independent media does not exist, it omit information all the time, that's why when i inform my self, i do it with all those chanels that are against the government, and those that soport it, after i heard then i have my conclutions.
