“... Decree 256/2010 and Disposition 14/2010 which pretend to control shipping in the South Atlantic ...”

'Pretend' - yes, that seems pretty acurate!

” ... Deputy Foreign Minister Tacetti considered the British position to be “pragmatic, not ideological.”

We've always been a pragmatic nation but I suspect over the Falkland Islands we are now more idealogical .... since 1982 in fact!

Argentina continues to misrepresent the United Nations position, emphasising the proposals by C-24 and not identifying that C-24's proposed Resolutions are not subsequently agreed by the UN as a whole and don't become 'Resolutions'.

The British will not talk .... but they will defend.

Good grief!!! Are there no end to the lies and self delusions of the Argentine 'government' ?

They will NEVER put their spurious claim to any real test i.e. the ICJ - instead they puff hot air and lie. Oh well - nothing changes and the Islands still belong to the islanders. So all the hot air and methane emitting from the Argentine 'government' has little effect other than t0 make Argentina look stupid, infantile and somewhat desperate.

I can't wait for the Argentine to impose these new shipping laws. I can just see the Argentine coast guard trying to board a navy destroyer to search it. That'll go well for them.

Will they give her a free lunch while they wag their finger at her?

I'd go for rare fillet steak and fries. The Argentines do produce good beef.

Actually the best beef now comes in from Uruguay - grown by dissalusioned ex Arg Beef Farmers who sold up and moved to Uruguay as they were fed up with the K,s marketing interferences. By end 2111 Arg will be a net beef importer - some drop down for the once leading beef country of the world!

The UK is always pragmatic but for some reason CFK pushes ideology to a new level. Probably something to do with the fact she has been so ineffectual and lives a celebrity lifestyle while a significant number of Argentines live in poverty! She makes David Cameron look like a Socialist!

Well, this looks like the beginning of the end for Argentine. Defence Secretary Liam Fox has already started talking about withdrawing British troops from Afghanistan. Not that the 10,000 we have there is significant compared to the 114,000 strength of the Regular Army, the 35,500 of the Territorial Army and the 121,820 of the Regular Reserve. All trained to the same standard. Mind you, we must be careful of the Argentine army, all 41,000 of them.
Still, Ambassador Morgan should be careful. Given known Argentine attitudes toward “diplomacy”, she could get taken hostage. But I reckon the Tomahawk missiles are already targetted.
The question Argentines have to ask themselves is this, “Is the SAS already in-country?” “Is the guy standing next to you one of yours?” Or one of ours? How many of your military installations already have demolition charges in place?

i doubt we'd do anything to their mainland agent regarding the SAS, there is no need to. The islands are very well protected currently, any landing ship would not only have a navy destroyer and submarine after it, but euro fighter jets.

Special forces using a submarine they could try, but 80 or so special forces against 2000 British troops would be suicide.

There just isn't any way for the Argentinians to get even on the islands unless they go full out, and they can't risk the defeat.

I wish everyone would stop talking about war. There is not going to be a war. Argentina knows that and so does Britain.

All there will be and continue to be is rhetoric to suit the Argentine electoral cycle.

    @ Idlehands post # 15

Well said. This isn't going to lead to a war and is all about the internal politics of Argentina. It is far too loud. One only has to worry about armed conflict if it goes very, very quiet. Argentina would be foolish to go to war a second time as the international community wouldn't stomach it. And doesn't it go against the Argentine constitution?

Now whats going to happen ... nothing? will Argentina say some fancy words and get the great baboon Chavez to hoot his approval, now stopping short of cutting of corn beef imports and thus damaging the Cornish pasties industry, I don't see any great progress coming from CFK's foot stamping other than to reaffirm the majority of the thinking world that Argentina is an imperialistic country that has approached this most delicate of issues with as much tact as a bunch of Neo-nazi's paying their last respects to the holocaust monument in Tel Aviv

Yes thank you very much GDR for your running commentary on how to recognize stroke victims, but I would rather be a mad racer, than a mad stroke victim keyboard warrior who if he doesn't get that blood clot stopping the normal blood flow in his brain will be greeting us with arguments such this by next week: Mnene mnneee nummonieee Malvinaaases.....

#15# Idlehands... I read your comment. You have my compliment!
Your argumentation and conclusion was so accurate and precise.
In particular your final words (“to suit the the Agentine electoral cycle”).
However, i am not sure you have taken in consideration, to avoid such a war ,mostly requires two DEMOCRATIC and CIVILISED nations.
With other words! Would you call a nation, which are able to use such thing for personal/ internal/politics for civilised???
    Answer???
Why don`t they go to ICJ and get a judgement ???

I think you will find we are perfectly happy with the current status. The Islands are under UK sovereignty as the islanders wish, the islands are self sufficient, and there defence will soon be paid for by Falklands oil. What isn't to be happy about?

    Why what's going to change?

There isn't anything your nation can do short of going to war over it again, and while your armed forces have dwindled our force-projection and technology has improved greatly.

The only option you have is the ICJ, and your nation won't do it. Not that we care much.

Jorge I'm on tender hooks about how the position is going to be unsustainable?

Are you going to blockade the none existent Falklands and latin American trade links?

Better yet will you deprive even your fallens relatives from using the LAN airlink?

Or will your mate that great baboon in Venzeula be convinced to unleash the mighty rust buckets of the Bolivarian revolutions navy? Upon the south Atlantic, oh Jorge your whimsical wet dreams are such hillarity.

More likely Jorge the worst we will have to endure will be an assault upon on the ears, alot of ranting and big phrases! How the palaces of the mighty over here buckled under the strong words of Jorge Tainia as he called us “anti-history”, how the world trembled aghast as Be bopa Lula said “what is the reason for englands presense there”, how the people of the falklands wailed in fear when Mighty Baboon Chavez uttered that landmark phrase in history “Mrs Queen of England give back those islands!”, How the foreign office reeled in terror when CFK said “the islands are 14,000km away!”

Jorge all that lot achieved was to provide budding comedians ample material for the Fringe festival in edinburgh LOL!

    The madness of eeer? Jorge!

PS Jorge Malvinas forever depends upon one thing, the continuation of Argentina, would you like to take up that bet my racist little neo-imperial Latin American friend?

    New ships, planes. equipment

Very soon we will have two massive aircraft carriers equipped with the f-35's and new subs.

There are only three navy's in the world capable of force projection and are classed as blue water navy's. in order of capability:

    USA
    UK
    France

Britain projected 45,000 troops into iraq as an invasion force.

The only other country near that was Australia with 2,000.

30 zethe, You talk about war an I'm talk about economics. You'll see!!!

31 Rhaurie-Craughwell, the only thing british care is $$$$. When the islands issue will start to be an unconfortable thing to your foreign office, thing will change, believe me!!!!

33 zethe, if you have that, then why don't you invade Iran????

You won't do it because you have too much to lose ($$$$) and you know it!!!!
We just need to economic growth for several years and things will start changing!!!

Britain has the 6th highest economy in the world, and is set to become the 3rd in the next 10 years, for a country as small as one of your provinces i think this puts Argentina to shame.

33 zethe, if you have that, then why don't you invade Iran????
Because we have the second largest navy in the world we should automatically invade iran? you are an idiot.

@34 jorge! Why would you talk about economics. You don't have an economy. You already have economic/trade problems with Brazil, France, Holland, Italy, Indonesia and Peru. And your great supporter, Adolf Chavez, has seen a further 5.8% dip into recession and can't turn the lights on unless it rains.

Things will change how Jorge? CFK will start begging instead of pleading pathetically to give her the islands so she can increase her already lowest opinion polls of any leader worldwide since the Tzar?

The only uncomfortable thing Jorge will be the cripplingly embarrassing letters the Argentine foreign office will send, we give might be compelled to give the islands back out of pity before any of your fantasy's come to pass.

And I am yet to see any evidence that we only care about Money? Perhaps all Argentina cares about is the oil also, why else would you want Antartica it's potential resources and South Georgia's as well and it seems to me odd that Argentina only kicked up a fuss when it looked like the Falklands stood to make big bucks.

Why throw the rattle out of the pram? Like a spoilt child do you want the kids next doors new toy eh?

The Kirchner's started to raise the nationalistic flag over the Falklands again in 2003 ..... tell me Jorgy boy, what has been achieved in the 7 years since then?

The islanders are a bit richer, the islanders are a bit closer to independence, the winters are wetter and there are less squid .......... but what else ???
