Automotive production rates in Argentina increased 46.6% year-on-year in June to 65,256 units, according to the ADEFA Argentina car-makers' association. The rates are promoting the domestic economy.

The national fabrication rates registered a rise of 9.3% with respect to May, while the accumulative rates for the first half of the year registered a rise of 56.3% equivalent to 306.476 units.

Vehicle exports rose 39% year-on-year to 40,813 unites, while concessionary sales, which include imported cars, saw a 41.8% increase in June to 60,940 units.

Automotive production and exports are crucial for the creation of employment opportunities in Argentina after the 2008 and 2009 economic crisis.

In the first half of the year exports jumped 60.9% over the same period a year ago, totalling 187.544 units.

“The automobile industry continues to represent more than a third of the total growth of Argentine industry, and is responsible for 34% of total manufacture exports”, said the ADEFA release.

The ADEFA organization said that what they had ”registered thus far allows for the reaffirmation of the prediction that 2010 will close with 680,000 units, with exports reaching 400,000 vehicles.

In 2009 US, European and Japanese car factories operating in Argentina manufactured a record 512.924 vehicles of which 322.495 were exported.
