Lula is pushing with the woman issue because - strangely - polls indicate more men than women intend to vote on Dilma.

“President Lula da Silva said a woman can rule Brazil country much better than all the men that have been presidents in the country in the last 500 years.”

“On November 15, 1889 Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca deposed Emperor Dom Pedro II, declared Brazil a republic, and reorganized the government.

From 1889 to 1930, the government was a constitutional democracy, with the presidency alternating between the dominant states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais.”

So Snr. da Silva doesn't think much of himself. Not really surprising as he clearly doesn't know enough about the history of his own country to remember that it has only had presidents for 121 years. With a memory for history like that, he's probably really an Argentine.
