“Women are not only an object in the bed and in the kitchen”, said the Brazilian leader “Women are not only an object in the bed and in the kitchen”, said the Brazilian leader

President Lula da Silva said a woman can rule Brazil country much better than all the men that have been presidents in the country in the last 500 years.

“Brazil is going to find out that a woman is not only an object in the bed and to lay the table, but a politician that can do things better than us in the last 500 years”, said Lula da Silva next to presidential candidate Dilma Rousseff during the first official rally of the campaign which took place over the weekend in Rio do Janeiro.

Lula da Silva openly praised the Workers Party candidate he handpicked to succeed him in the presidency in the coming October 3 election.

“I wasn’t a friend of Dilma. I only met her not long before I was voted president…and I chose her to succeed me, I put my hands in fire for her, I bet my soul on her”, said Lula da Silva to a cheering crowd of thousands in downtown Rio.

Lula da Silva describes Ms Rousseff as “competent”, “committed” and “ready” to take over the most important post in the country.

The president also recalled that Ms Rousseff was a militant of extreme left groups during the time of the military dictatorship that ruled Brazil from 1964 to 1985, which meant she spent time in jail and was tortured.

“She has an angel face, but she was viciously tortured and electric shocks”, said the Brazilian president about the Workers party candidate, but he added, “she has no remorse, no vengeance spirit, because she only thinks in the future.

Lula da Silva called on Brazilians to trust and support Ms Rousseff in the coming October election so that there is “no back stepping” in the social and economic policies sponsored by the government during his two four year mandates.

This was also the first time that that the Workers Party and other parties belonging to the ruling coalition joined Ms Rousseff and Lula da Silva in a campaign rally.

The huge demonstration begun with a walk headed by Ms Rousseff through downtown Rio do Janeiro, Brazil’s largest city after Sao Paulo. Lula da Silva joined the group once they were at the stage mounted in one of the city’s main squares.

Lula is pushing with the woman issue because - strangely - polls indicate more men than women intend to vote on Dilma.

“President Lula da Silva said a woman can rule Brazil country much better than all the men that have been presidents in the country in the last 500 years.”

“On November 15, 1889 Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca deposed Emperor Dom Pedro II, declared Brazil a republic, and reorganized the government.

From 1889 to 1930, the government was a constitutional democracy, with the presidency alternating between the dominant states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais.”

So Snr. da Silva doesn't think much of himself. Not really surprising as he clearly doesn't know enough about the history of his own country to remember that it has only had presidents for 121 years. With a memory for history like that, he's probably really an Argentine.
