Argentina’ natural gas reserves dropped to half their 2000 level when they totalled 378.862 million cubic metres, which means at the current consumption rate in seven and a half years the country will ran out of the vital fuel, according to a report released this week in Buenos Aires. Jul 21st, 2010 - 07:14 am - Link - Report abuse 0Back to coal (have they got any?) and wood (they must have some!) then!
Jul 21st, 2010 - 08:39 am - Link - Report abuse 0There's always methane. Can be obtained from decomposition of organic matter. Argentine diet. Collect all the fa*ts.
So... in a few years... no fuel.. limited mineral resources, no internationaly competitive manufacturing industries, no beef industry, no soy oil exports, golly ..I wonder what think thinks of all that?
Jul 21st, 2010 - 10:43 am - Link - Report abuse 0I commented yesterday:
Jul 21st, 2010 - 01:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0”Argentina’s energy supplies are running low, only have natural gas for another 7 years. No wonder they're desperate to grab Falkland's natural reserves. This link is in Spanish (I couldn't find it in English) and explains the energy crisis that this 3er world country faces in the short term”.
Argentina has plenty of gas and oil, the problem is the government has made it uneconomical to explore and bring the potential fields online. They price capped gas and oil 10 years ago and it has never recovered. So there is little to no exploration in the country. It takes 10 years to find and bring on new fields so the people are screwed as usual.
Jul 21st, 2010 - 01:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0PLUS the Ks import oil from Hugo, make 15% commission on the imports and withhold supplies to raise the price so they are making a fortune on the energy crisis. There is no reason for them to fix it.

I think it is # 11!
Jul 21st, 2010 - 03:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Ah so now the truth is revealed, does anybody notice slight coincidence here? After years of not very much happening oil and gas is found and Argentina kicks up a fuss in the same year they have less than 7 years less? I will use Think's analogy here and say that Argentina wants most of the South Atlantic to get at all those rich lovely oil resources, not because of some collectively insane national exercise of ego.
Jul 21st, 2010 - 05:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The next 7 years shall be interesting! They could always ask the FIG very nicely and maybe an overdue apology to the islanders for being the murderous psychopathic neighbor next door for the last 50 years since Argentina under Peron's guidance has strived to become a mini Imperial power.
Don't be so happy fellows

And I see someone has suggested that Britain can please Friends of the Earth and cut out another Argentine export market at the same time.
Seems like an excellent idea. Feed British livestock on British feed and cut out imports from Argentina!!

Jul 21st, 2010 - 09:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If you check with some knowledgeable people, you will find that Argentena has plenty of gas; the fact is that there is a very underdeveloped system for production and distribution of that gas.

Hydrogen fuel for Argentina. What a terrific idea. I think it shoukld be adopted right away with a specific date set for the country to Go Hydrogen. All across Argentina, people setting light to the blue touch paper at the same time! Argentina could be the new Atlantis!

Jul 24th, 2010 - 12:04 am - Link - Report abuse 0What is omited in this articule , is that, ypf, enarsa (argentine statal corporation) and others, are making exploration works in diferent sectors of the argentine territory, since october of 2008, enarsa, ypf, and enap sipetrol (chilean corporation), are exploring the costs of san jorge in santa cruz, ypf is doing diferent explorations, like the malargue bassin in mendoza, and others, beside since dicember of current year, it will explore too the malvinas bassin (outside the exclution zone, declared uniterally by the u.k), beside there are many others exploration works, in fact, last year ypf found the most important reserve in 18 years, it was found in neuquen bassin, i really hope that we found more and more reserves, because we need them to assure the development of our country, beside there is an agreement betwen enarsa and pedeveza to explore the orinoco bassin, and it was and important reserve too.

There must be a lot of argies by the name of Sr. Benjamin Dover!
Or perhaps Philip Mc Avetee!
The queen is simply titular head, not ruler.
