The Paraguayan Senate under opposition control postponed the consideration of Paraguay’s incorporation to Unasur, Union of South American Nations, without any mediate timetable to review the issue. The Senate also has it its “frozen” agenda a vote on Venezuela’s incorporation to Mercosur as full member. Read full article

Will Paraguay reveal Mercosur and Unasur to be organisations for the advancement of the power-hungry, like Chavez and the Kirchners?

Chavez, certainly, has few credible pretensions to democracy having altered the Venezuelan constitution to allow him to be “perpetual” president. Whilst the Kirchners look to be on for a different plan, swapping the presidency back and forth between them.

It is very ironic indeed that the least democratic country in South Anerica's Southern Cone has become the defender of “democracy” in South America. In any event, President Lugo's arguments as to why Paraguay needs to vote on Venezuela's full membership in the MERCOSUR is factually incorrect. Paraguayan exports already have duty-free access (and those that do not will in the future) as the Andean Community-MERCOSUR FTA is gradually brought into full force.

The populist countries led by the 3 most extremist, Argentina, Venezuela and Brazil. They call the shots in Southamerica’s “Axis of Evil”; the Kirchners, Hugo Chavez, and the “humble” Lula. Paraguay obviously has fears and common sense.
I live in one of the Mercosur and Unasur puppet, Uruguay. The populist government will free 2000 inmates for lack of space. Most posters in this forum mock me for telling the truth.

I applaud the Paraguayan Congress for showing restrain. President Lugo is a dangerous man, like most of the leaders in this continent. In the end, Paraguay will succumb to the pressure.

Latest news, populist Lugo can be dying of pancreatic cancer. Everyone bites the dust…..everyone bites the dust. Oh well…he enjoyed life as priest, polygamist, fathered many children and die as a populist.
