At the interview Garcia also said that Obama was prevented from taking a stand against the Honduras coup mongers due to pressure from conservative Congressmen. They - American conservatives - are very loud about invading other countries in order to impose a democratic regime. But they support coups d'état when a leftist government is overthrown. When Lula himself got elected in 2002, some Republican Congressment - 11 of them - wrote Bush a letter in which they URGED their president to take a stand against “Marxist” Lula in order to reestablish freedom in Brazil!

David T. Pyne, a politican who was in charge of Latin American matters at the Pentagone, wrote:
“President Bush should act immediately to shore up the forces of freedom in Brazil.”

In the eyes of American politicians, Latin American people lack the dignity and independence to elect their own leaders, the leaders they believe will do the best for their people. The Honduras people were the last to lose such right.

As for Obama, he is a weak man. The impression we over South America have of him, is that he's not entirely in control of his cabinet. In his foreign policy decisions, it seems that Hillary Clinton and conservative Congressmen have more voice and authority than he does.
