Before you two vicious little toads get too excited, you should notice two things.
The Prime Minister of Australia is not proposing to do ANYTHING until the next change of monarch. If our present Queen survives as long as her mother, the next change of monarch will be in around 30 years. Please, both of you, hold your breaths until then.
And when/if it comes up, it will be a matter for the Australian people.

Up to them, but please note the following, “ ... Ms Gillard whose centre-left Labour Party has long held that the country should become a republic.....” and in particular the word LONG!

One of those election issues that get raised when one party is desperate to get votes in. A bit like Argentina over the Falklands. The last time there was an Australian push to vote for being a Republic it failed.

But it's up to them .... much as the Falkland Islands are 'up to the islanders'.

I don't see why anyone even cares if she's Australia's monarch.

It's a nice but outdated process.

Wrong again Maro, I don't care one way or the other. I know that a number of old colonies have kept the Queen as Head of State but I couldn't tell you how many or come up with many names.

It's an issue for the people of the respective States..... very much 'up to them', makes not an ounce of difference to me.

I'm not an avid monarchist although I'd rather have a monarch as Head of State than another jumped up politician !

I don't think anyone will really care one way or the other.

They'll still have all the trade benefits of commonwealth membership which is the only bit that's really relevant.

It's funny seeing Argentine nationalists bouncing up and down about it. All that does is display their ignorance of how the rest of the world works. Australia has been independent for over 200 years.

Although i don't really care if Australia breaks from the crown, i'd also like the ad that they have voted on this subject twice, and both times an overwhelming majority of the Australian public choose to keep the queen as head of state.
