The Falklands/Malvinas dispute between Argentina and the UK is having its effects on the (Spanish) Galician fleet in the Southwest Atlantic, where most of its vessels operating under the Falklands flag are continually being “harassed” by Argentine patrol vessels, reports El Faro de Vigo in an interview with Javier Touza, president of the Vigo Ship Owners cooperative. Disclaimer & comment rulesGood timing, just before a new round of talks between the EU and Mercosur !
Sep 28th, 2010 - 04:59 am - Link - Report abuse 0Does the Argentine navy know the difference between Oil and Fish Oil :-)
Do you really think the EU and Mercosur are going to waste their time discussing that?.
Sep 28th, 2010 - 07:46 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yes!
Sep 28th, 2010 - 08:07 am - Link - Report abuse 0France and other EU members are opposed to any deal already ..... now Spain has grounds for complaint. Spain is very protective of its fishing fleet.
Sorry fishies for the long journey.
Sep 28th, 2010 - 04:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Sorry fishies for the long journey
Sep 28th, 2010 - 04:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0What else have the mighty Argies got up their sleeves, the Falklands are surely theirs for the taking :-)
It's a pity the EU can't block Argie ships from innocent passage - because there aren't any...
Sep 28th, 2010 - 06:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0There is nothing innocent about the exploitation of our waters, if they do ANYTHING in them without our permission they are fully involved in our political and diplomatic disputes.
Sep 28th, 2010 - 07:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Nothing is innocent if done in Argentine waters without our expressed permission.
Ocampo_RA, innocent passage is a right under international law. And they have your permission already. Argentina signed and ratified UNCLOS. Sadly Argentina has a habit of picking and choosing the times when it complies with its treaty obligations...
Sep 28th, 2010 - 07:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Wrong, they are fishing in Argentine waters without our permission. This is how it is, I'm not interested in discussing sovereignty issues with British civilians, as that's what this conversation will undoubtedly lead to.
Sep 28th, 2010 - 07:59 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Islas Malvinas is part of Argentina, any and all activities conducted in and around Malvinas must be approved by Argentina. So I say again, nothing is innocent if done otherwise. NOTHING
No Ocampo_RA, they were not fishing in Argentine waters. They were attempting to steam through Argentine waters after fishing elsewhere.
Sep 28th, 2010 - 08:04 pm - Link - Report abuse 0And no, the Islas Malvinas are not and have never been part of Argentina so no Argentine approval is needed or has ever been needed for anything which happens in that territory.
THIMC
Sep 28th, 2010 - 08:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As there is no other Country in the area, any fishing vessel on the South Atlantic not holding an Argentinean fishing license can be assumed to be poaching...
Therefore, Argentina has all the right to inspect such a ship cargo and documentation to protect our marine resources :-)
Such inspections can be looong and bothersome due to our “Latino” mentality…..
Sorry
Great, Argentina annoying the Spanish with petty restrictions, pissing off the one country in Europe that might be remotely sympathetic on the grounds of racial solidarity.
Sep 28th, 2010 - 09:13 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Carry on, do.
Argentina is pretty good at harassing but not much else. Fishing and oil drilling continues and Argentina can do little about it. But I suppose this kind of harassing makes them feel big and strong!
Sep 28th, 2010 - 09:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Oh and I suppose Spain are also complicit in illegal acts by fishing in waters controlled by the FIG. Much of this catch is landed in Uruguay, looks like they are handling stolen goods and need to be taken to court.
Wake up Camp man!
This companies always have the option to fish in their own waters in Europe, in our waters we set the rules.
Sep 28th, 2010 - 10:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Another argument in favour of a new deep sea port on the islands which will eliminate the need for fishing vessels to take their catches to Uruguay, saving the fishing firms money and increasing the profits going into the Falklands.
Sep 28th, 2010 - 11:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Sounds good all round .... lets hear it for Argentina :-)
They weren't fishing in your waters Ale. You seem to have a profound misunderstanding of what innocent passage means.
Sep 29th, 2010 - 05:51 am - Link - Report abuse 0I wonder if Spain will want to take this illegal harassment of innocent fishermen to the Security Council?
Sep 29th, 2010 - 09:19 am - Link - Report abuse 0Mr#17, No today, they are very busy with a major strike today.
Sep 29th, 2010 - 03:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Innocent?...thieves.
It'snot possible to steal something you have a licence to catch. Sorry.
Sep 29th, 2010 - 08:07 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yes they have a license, issued by an illegal occupier government.
Sep 29th, 2010 - 09:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Wrong.
Sep 29th, 2010 - 09:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0But you Argies have responded before. Last I heard HMS York politely told the ARA Drummond that it was where it shouldn't be. ARA Drummond acknowledged and ran like a scared cat.
Sep 29th, 2010 - 10:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Like your expensive plane that couldn't land in little fog, Argentina please help.....
Sep 30th, 2010 - 12:37 am - Link - Report abuse 0It would actually be against ICAO regulations to refuse to allow a diversion due to adverse weather. Thank you Argentina for complying with your International obligations. Again. How many times do you wish us to say thank you for your compliance with your International obligations?
Sep 30th, 2010 - 07:46 am - Link - Report abuse 0BTW did you ever say thank you for the emergency landing of a C-130 in February 1982, remember the one using it as a pretext for a little espionage?
I don't see why they get so excited over the fog it grounds flights constantly all over the world.
Sep 30th, 2010 - 10:22 am - Link - Report abuse 0My my flight back from france was delayed because of heavy fog.

Sep 30th, 2010 - 06:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yet another “little convenient lie” from our beloved JustinKuntz…………..
The rules of the ICAO (International CIVIL Aviation Organization) do NOT apply to MILITARY aircrafts……
Even if the pilots were on the “CIVIL(ized)” mission of visiting their “pololas” and te(a)sting the magnificent King Crab of Punta Arenas
Still you being a Argie would know about lies

Oct 01st, 2010 - 01:21 am - Link - Report abuse 0http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/feb/25/falklands-britains-expensive-nuisance
Nothing up to date then Marcos ...... repetitive old news from Britain premier socialist newspaper which has almost no support amongst the population. Check out the comments under the article you quote !
Oct 01st, 2010 - 01:27 am - Link - Report abuse 029, Marcos Alejandro: Again! The same old article that has been rolled out again and again and again! We all know what it says. Simon Jenkins is entitled to his opinion, but it's not an opinion that the vast majority of British people agree with.
Oct 01st, 2010 - 01:45 am - Link - Report abuse 0So, please don't hold your breath for a clamour from the British public to demand the return of the Falklands to poor little Argentina. It's not going to happen.
Simon Jenkins (nee Hunnicutt) is a left wing journalist with a book to sell!
Oct 01st, 2010 - 03:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0Says it all :-)
The Argentinians are so stupid! Instead of creating an atmosphere of good will trying to gain the minds and the hearts of the islanders and, why not? Trying to invest in the islands, they hostilize them without any benefits for either side. Let's face it, if tomorrow the kelpers wanted to form part of Argentina, what kind of future would they have? One of mismanagement and corruption? To be under a government that doesn't respect even its supreme court? The kelpers might be crazy, not stupid!
Oct 01st, 2010 - 11:32 am - Link - Report abuse 0John. They tried that. They spent a few years being nice, entering into agreements and so forth. Then, when they found that the Falklanders didn't really believe a word of it, they tore up the agreements, threw their toys out of their prams and stormed off.
Oct 01st, 2010 - 05:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Did I spot Think making a personal attack and calling other people a liar?
Oct 01st, 2010 - 06:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Apparently the ICAO diversion regulations don't apply to military aircraft. According to Think.

Please point me to where it says that. Liar, liar pants on fire.
I believe the word is BUSTED.
