Uruguay presented pre-candidacy, with Argentina, for the 2030 World Cup

In 1930 Uruguay organized and won the first Jules Rimet cup

The international football federation, FIFA, President Joseph Blatter confirmed that Uruguay has expressed interest in organizing jointly with Argentina, the 2030 World Soccer Cup, to celebrate the 100 years of the first Jules Rimet edition and Uruguay’s victory.

“Uruguay has presented its pre-candidacy to organize together with Argentina the 2030 World Soccer Cup because that year in the hundredth anniversary of the first cup in 1930, the Jules Rimet”, said Blatter who was visiting Colombia.

Uruguay’s national team conquered the first Jules Rimet before 80.000 people that packed the Centenario stadium in Montevideo defeating Argentina 4-2. Argentina organized and won the 1978 edition.

Blatter also mentioned that Colombia is a soccer seedbed with a long tradition of excellent players and that was one of the reasons why FIFA decided to grant it the organization of the Under-20 world cup in 2011.

“Colombia is a country essentially pro-football and that is very important when FIFA awards a world cup” said Blatter during a press conference after meeting with Luis Bedoya president of the Colombian Football federation and Ramon Jerusun, from the Colombian professional football division, Dimayor.

Blatter also underlined the fact that Colombia is organizing the 2011 world cup is a vote of confidence for the country. “This is a great vote of confidence for Colombia, which was unable to organize the 1986 World Cup”.
