Natural resources eh? If I were Chilean I'd be concerned Argentina might decide to “reclaim” its previously alleged rightful ownership of those parts of Tierra del Fuego currently occupied by Chile, and dust off the old 'Operación Soberanía'.

Isolde, As we all know, Argentina still claims ownership of the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the South Sandwich Islands, parts of Chilean, and British Antarctica, small parts of Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, as well as part of the uninhabitable Chilean Andean Southern Ice Field. Not to mention sovereignty over huge swathes of the South Atlantic. Not modest expansionist and colonialist ambitions from a country largely uninhabited, with most of its population cowering in overcrowded urban slums.

Here’s a picture of just part of what Argentines righteously covet.

“Give ‘em an inch... ” as we say.

As I am not up-to-date on Argentina claims, what parts of Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay are they claiming? The map shown on your Internet connection does not show any of this area.

6 jerry, it looks as if they might have given up on those historical territorial claims. The current disputes with Uruguay and Brazil are over water resources and port access. ( http://ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=46326 ) (http://ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=46326 Argentina also claims part of Brazilian Antarctica, of course. Great neighbours.
