We all were mezmerized watching the rescue of the 33 miners and pleased with the end result. What was not covered is explained by Professor Cole at his web site “Infromed Comment” at Juancole.com. Why were miners sent into a “death trap”?

Of course, after the firts step, the miners rescue, the due investigation will be made by the Justice Power for the legal responsability and the Congress for the politicals as well as Republic Controller for the administratives resposabilities of the last leftist Gvts. that gave the permits to work in that kind of enviromental and safety conditions.
The responsibles must pay for their acts as much as they deserve....
And, if the rescue cost must be paid with our taxes, I'll be happy with it because it will be well invested money.....not like big ammounts of money for some pockets last gvts. from our taxes...(Transantiago, Chilean Railways, Public Works Ministery, CODELCO and other).
Our President has announced new laws that will increase the inspection and the default cost, so will be thw worst business forget the safety in all kind of works, not only mining sites.

    Alejandro Bohn and Marcelo Kemeny

Are those two going to pay the government back? Will there be a trial/law suit against them?

The mine owners and the gvt. officers who didn´t do their jobs properly must pay for their faults. The mine property is ruled by an interventor at the moment and the gvt. will try to retrieve all the cost if is possible. The mine owners are in trial at the moment for a precius accident in the mine and can be jailed for it.
Don´t forget that now we have a real gvt. not the oldest 20 years leftist ones that didn´t their jobwell enough.
Finally, if isn´t possible to get back the rescue cost, for me it doesn´t matter because saving the miners lives if enough to justifie the use of our tax money.....even just one of them were saved.
Thanks to Mr. Piñera to give us a new way to see “the Chilean way to do things” that before was as denigrate prarphrase now is the opposite.
Good luck, Mr. Piñera, during your visit to Prime Minister Mr. Cameron and HM the Queen Elizabeth II on next days.
