    I concur Monty.

Hey Xbox, difference between these and RG turbines is these work properly...and they'll keep working, good British engineering and maintainence dontcherknow, they'll still be pumping out electricity when the replacements for your Patagonian ones (baught with 'borrowed' money no doubt) are piles of scrap.

“This figure (40%) compares favourably to the UK Government's goal for 20 per cent of electricity produced in the UK”

Hey mates its not too much?

UK produces 368.600.000.000 KW/h and the 20% of that on wind power productions represents 73.720.000.000 KW/h. /52 weeks = 1.417.692.307 KW/h per week

And the Island weekly production of the 6 turbines 330kW Enercon is 686 KW/h and represents 40%????

Don you have something wrong in your figures or the guys use candles?

My last electricity bill says 1.100 KWh for 2 months consumption what will be 6.600 KW/h per year divided 52 weeks my consumption is around 130 KWh per week.

A bloc with 10 houses (Normally has 40) will need 1300 KWh per week

You may be joking do you? Haha

If I put a couple of solar panels at home will you consider to compare “Nico’s Nation” with UK too?
Because I will be the Friendly greener nation in the world.

    Hahaha

    @WestisBest

“good British engineering and maintainence dontcherknow”

Haha ha theses turbines E-33/330 kW and 330kW Enercon are made in Germany.

About what Brit engineering are you talking about?

As far I know the biggest producers of wind power generators are Denmark, Germany, Spain, US, Brazil, India and Argentina.

We will have 1.200.000.000 KW/h installed by 2016. Close to the same that will have Britain in 2020.

Stop dreaming and smoking that crap.

Blimey! you do know you that in every room there's a little switch by the door that turns the light off don't you?
Anyway what's your point with your rather random sprawl of figures? the Sand Bay turbines do produce 40% of Stanleys electricity which is a good thing, or are you suggesting it's not?

Ah the great crusader of the Parrot Tree strikes again!

I think your the one smoking the pot dear fellow!

“As far I know the biggest producers of wind power generators are Denmark, Germany, Spain, US, Brazil, India and Argentina”

....The reallity is so much different

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_power

I do believe those statistics are marked by the distinct absence of Argentina.

I don't think you read the article either.

Obviously your indignant mocking outrage saw 40% but went no further, if you had it said “40% of power for Stanley”

But then since your on some pot fuelled msytical magical discovery of the motherland, you wouldn't have researched the Falklands energy consumption per year: 15.88 million kWh

so whats that divided by 12? 1,488,000

The Wind turbines are producing annually: 11,527,200

However lets not forget the 1/3 rule, being that 1/3 of energy is usually lost transporting from the producer to the grid before consumption.

so 1/3 of the above figure is 3,842,400 so the final total is 7,684,800.

I do believe that when you take into account other factors such as no wind or low wind speeds that figure becomes roughly 40%?

You really are thick aren't you? comparing a relatively small rural society to your own city life, Its not like the Falklands have the same amount of electronic power guzzling gadgets that you have thicko-I-have-8-mobile-phones-Dim!

We live in odd times when Argentines feel the need to dutifully uphold the motherlands honor in the face of such competition from the Islands!

There a pile of crap. Spend more time broke down than they should.
Six turbines producing only One Meg - Thats pretty shit they should be putting out Two Meg. But I guess if they are turning they look GOOD. Not many peoply know they are running at less than 50% of there posible output. But he does like his ass getting licked.

Read the article snoope, Those turbines are capable of providing all of Stanleys power, they are ramped back so the current system can deal with the fluctuations in supply.

“The next phase in the development of the wind farm will be energy storage, achieved by charging a 2MWh battery during optimal wind times and discharging the battery when wind is not available. This will ensure that energy production is kept more constant.”

Without that storage buffer the power station generator has to still be running to deal with fluctuations that's inherent with turbines, you can't 'magic' surplus power away, if the turbines were allowed to produce as much as they could they would reduce the load on the power station generator to nothing, as you've demonstrated that you're so knowledgable about such things you'll know of course that running an alternator with little or no load is very, very bad for it.

    Do your homework eh?

For sure they have the right to campaign, or to seek recourse through the courts, but in the end they, if they insist on being British, must therefore abide by whatever choice is made by the British people as a whole, through their elected government. Should Britain decide to concede its colony off the coast of Argentina to the Argentinians, those who currently live there could choose to remain on the islands as 'ex-pat' Brits, or to relocate to England, Scotland or Wales with whatever financial compensation terms would be on offer; a small number of them might even decide to apply to become citizens of Argentina. That would be for them to decide, in the context of a negotiated solution. Is the 60 million strong British bulldog really being wagged by its miniscule Falklands tail- or more precisely a hair on the tail, given that there are only 3,140 Falklanders? In the 21st Century, can a European power hide its colonial claim to the oil resources under the sea bed of South America by sheltering behind the 'rights' of its colonists?

Britain must go, and in the end it will have to go; the issue is one of how and when.

Oh yes Xbox, perhaps you would like to live as an expat Spanish/Italian immigre/colonist in Dalmatia or the Galician Highlands? Provided of course “adequate compensation” was left?

I don't see why anybody should be forced to leave their homes or change their citizenship because their nasty neighbor reckons that 180 years ago it had several turf black houses and about 30 wretched gauchos and British emmigrants somewhere on the islands.

And I don't know where you get this colony fantasy from, is the British embassy a colony?

Is the 60 million British Bull dog wagged by the interests of its own citizens in the South Atlantic? Yes.

Can a European hide behind its colonial claim NEW FLASH XBOX! We didn't organize those rigs it was the FIG, British policy and legislation only extends towards the defense of those operations and telling Argentina to grow up on the international stage.

And yes we can shelter behind human rights, even if you believe them to be colonists, colonists also have rights and if those colonists have human rights and are British citizens we have an obligation... nay a duty to defend those rights.

Does Argentina's obligations towards its citizens stop when they go abroad to other countries?

Colonists? Sheer fantasy and poor understanding. Colony means the complicated often one sided relationship between the colonized and colonizer, with the colony serving no other purpose than as a means for generating revenue and natural resources for the motherland.

Colonist 180 years ago, yes? Now? Ha! 180 years and a very established long term population, we might as well say your a colonist of white Europe?

Why as a descendant from Gaels I'm therefore a colonist in Scotland! Albeit my ancestors who first colonised Scotland did so several thousand years ago

It seems Argentines have a very selective criteria for colonists and colonies, provided its in their favor.

Congratulation, Fab, many Kisses, good, marvel!, felicitaciones, tanti auguri.
What do you want me to say?

I was questioning in the article the comparison with UK what makes looks silly the article that’s all, mate.

Like all the compassion including The Royal Navy mate what stupid can believe that 1000 men 4 Typhoon etc. can prevent us to take over the Islands if we want to do so?

Our Provincial Police of Buenos Aires could take over the Island with boats mate 50.000 men with just FN FAL 7.62.51 OTAN with 100 round each it is a pretty large force to exterminate (5m projectiles 100k grenades, 1 pistol/5m shoots). Do you have any Idea of the ridiculous that this comparison sounds to Us?

Your pipi shrinks because my house uses a 1/3 of your win power? What can I do?

Well you have a GDP per capita bigger than Us. mate. Oops my pipi got smaller now.

Well anyway wasn’t much to shrink according with my last girlfriend. Have you got a magnifying glass please? I need to go to the toilette right now and I cannot find it.

I said producer of turbines mate don’t you ever read well?
“The Brazilian wind power subsidiary of Argentina's Perscarmona SA (IMPSA), a global supplier of hydro power plant, is setting up a wind turbine assembly plant... In doing so, Wind Power Energía SA (WPE) is competing with Germany's Fuhrländer to be the second company after Wobben Windpower, an offshoot of German Enercon, to produce wind turbines in Brazil...”

“Your pipi shrinks because my house uses a 1/3 of your win power? What can I do?”

“The Sand Bay Wind Farm produced 115,272 units of electricity at an hourly average for the week of 686 kilowatts”

How is 130 Kw per WEEK one third of 686 Kw per HOUR!

It is irrelevant 686/600/5000 is irrelevant the comparison is just stupid with UK in any sense what next will you compare with China or USA?
1000 houses its not even a neighbourhood in Argentina or in UK.
Nothing is comparable, you cannot compare even though with Tierra del Fuego what would be a super power compare with the Island.

You have a distorted view of yourself you are not even in the league of Nauru to compare something. See where are you in the chart.
170 position down shitty Argentina and 180 down UK .
And Energy production is equal to your industrial muscle consumption and economy power. Doesn't matter your per capita or GDP

Can you see how silly you are by talking with that tone to Us?

If they land, i'd agree Nico.

It's landing that is the question. Cram 10 boats with 50,000 men, if they land they will win without question.

However it those boats will have a 200 mile trip with Typhoons shooting anti ship missiles at them. With a possible nuclear sub in the area and a Destroyer.

It would be a massacre at sea.

Provincial Police of Buenos Aires, are far too busy for that invasion malarkey

    http://www.mail-archive.com/pen-l@galaxy.csuchico.edu/msg85206.html

In the Buenos Aires provincial police, “each division dedicates itself to the area of crime that it is supposed to be fighting,” said Alejandra Vallespir, a sociologist at the University of Buenos Aires who has written extensively about the police force. “The robbery division steals and robs, the narcotics division traffics drugs, auto theft controls the stealing of cars and the chop shops, and those in fraud and bunco defraud and swindle.”

Prosecutors and former police officials say there is not an area of crime, from prostitution and gambling to drug-running and kidnapping, in which members of the provincial police force are not involved. On roadways and in the pampas, so-called “pirates of the asphalt,” sometimes in marked patrol cars, are engaged in cattle rustling and highway robbery.

In an interview in the provincial town of Mercedes, Miriam Rodríguez, a crusading prosecutor who has obtained numerous convictions for police corruption, including that of her chief personal assistant, described how the system typically works. She cited the case of an auto-theft ring in which she obtained the conviction of seven police officers.

Thieves would steal a car and sell it with fake registration papers to an unsuspecting buyer, she said. The police would then seize the car, threaten the new owner with jail unless he paid hefty bribes, and give the car back to the thieves. The cycle would be repeated sometimes three or four times before the car would be turned over to a chop shop and dismantled.

    you may struggle with that.

    @WestisBest

Ok fine its 100 watts rms you are the electronic guy in the Island I guess. Haha
But I’m not, anyway I will tray to figure out what your are asking for.

1- some clarification Power (W) in electricity consumption or generation its always expressed as xW/h (Kw/h, Mwh, Gwh, Tw/h) what means the quantity of units of produced or consumption per hour in a given elapsed time. This could be a day, week, year, etc.
So if you consumption let’s say its 1kw/h and you have a elapsed time of 8hs would 8kw/h even its messy.

Now you are asking 130kw against 686kwh. What I assume that in this case that you are expressing that the generator produces 686kw/h x24x7 in the case is running 24/7 non stop or Its storage on batteries.

Let me see if I understood your question because is messy.

Are you asking me how many houses can be supplied with 686 Kw/h x 24 x 7 days a week consuming 130kw a week? Or 130Kw/h

You question is bad expressed because would be

X=(686kwh*24*7)/130kw ok not like this because you are giving me the formula but I need all info.

What its equal 886.52 houses. In that case or 5.27 houses if expressed in the other way becuase would be 130k/week.

And you have to take into account the waste in the transport of electricity what depends of the wire, voltage and distance. Low voltage more amps more cooper wire more lost, higher voltage the contrary.

Well mate I have not Idea of what voltage, distance, wire, and wat you are asking for, etc. Linguistic problem you assume many things we don’t.

So provide me all variables in a standard formula format and I will work it out else it is a messy captious question.

Hey mate I like electronic but it’s not my field in fact this is electricity.

Its like I ask you what this means? And give “wget” “Dig”, etc. If you are not familiar with this you can be 30 years without google of course to figure out about what I’m talking about.

And then I say Can you see your little grasp of science.

    So are you electric b

what a load of flither. You can forget about all that 'real application' guff, it's an academic question, just go on what info I gave you. you got so caught up with writing such a wordy response you neglected something fundamental:

“a power supply 40% of which is 686 Kwh.”

40% Nico, that makes the power supply 1715 Kwh. That means it could run 2216 houses requiring 130 Kw/week.

    See....it wasn't that hard.

““WestisBest” was questioning my intellectual capability to express an irrelevant figure on an irrelevant subject.”

figures are figures Nico, whether you think they're relevant or not is beside the point. You've demonstrated that you're ignorant of some quite basic physics....and maths come to that.
FYI I'm no sort of 'electricity guy' as you put it, just someone who's had a reasonable education, Couldn't comment on your intellectual capacity however I can read into this that the education you get in Argentina focuses a bit too much on Malvinist propaganda rather than more useful subjects.

Moral and religion are for the mass to be controlled especially by fear.

If you want to control people in mass invent a fictitious enemy and a good religion and a moral based society.

What its moral? Can you describe me your moral?

People that like to send 18 years old to be killed in Afghanistan for colonialist reasons, don’t seem to me a high Standard of moral to question others.

So you are more immoral than me the difference its that you guys are immoral and very Hypocrite at the same time.

A population that keeps a territory based on colonialism doesn’t seem to have a high level of moral.

A population that it not willing to sacrifice themselves and resort to use other people lives to do that doesn’t seem a high level or moral.

I cannot see your high standar of moral and you?

For someone who has claimed to have such contempt for morality you seem to be awfully keen to claim the moral high ground Nico, you can't have it both ways mate, if you have no morality why should you care? and if you do care how can you claim to be 'above' such an archaic concept?

“Moral and religion are for the mass to be controlled especially by fear.
If you want to control people in mass invent a fictitious enemy and a good religion and a moral based society.”

Stupid generalisations like that are trotted out all the time by people who never engage their brains, merely an attempt to sound intelligent without the tedious necessity of actually being intelligent. Next you'll be saying that all wars and suffering in the world are caused by religion. Why don't you try actually thinking for once Nico.

    @WestisBest

I never said that its your own interpretation basic only in the potential of you brain.

War are always a matter of $$ and power.

That to be “Morally supported” for the inhabitant of a nation (now called voters) you need a tool to fuel animosity with your chosen enemy.

No nation will support a war if you say “hey mates we will go to kill some kids, steal some oil and create new business for fellows greed at home that want to become even more rich and exploit you every day at home”.

Religion, moral, belief, and whatsoever its Useful to hide the real reason behind or the scope of the confrontation. A good bomb with some civilian casualties representing the spectrum of a given society on home land to identify themselves its quite effective to create the mass support for a war.

A good rhetoric always gives a good hand to archive your goal for war.
Here and example that may be your brain can decode.

“We are democratic... they are not, we have respect for human life... they do not... As we look into these issues... Its important that we never loose sight about basic values...” Tony lair I mean Tony Blair

Sniff he makes me cry. Don’t you?

And the stupid goes to war without much thinking.

So there are leaders, follower, beneficiaries and the lower manipulated mass.
Who are you in the chain?

I’ve have already made my thoughts.

Or is it another stupid peice of randomness you've just plucked out your bottom? The islands account for 0.03% of the total budget. Not much really.

I just don't see how they magicly cost us 700 million a year. Four typhoons and 2,000 men, some heavy warfighting kit and the cost of about 200 more men on the RN ships is no way near 700 million.

Wages would be the highest payment costing about 60 million, but if those staff were not in the falklands they would be elsewhere and still costing us 60 million.

68 Think “Or that Oil company Director that was fined a sizeable sum in London for his insider trading………….”

I am sure that you're talking about this guy:
“By October 1996 plans for oil exploration around the Falklands were proceeding at a pace. Concerned that Falklands Conservation would demand protection for wildlife, the director of Desire Petroleum, Lewis Clifton, was proposed as chairman of the organisation. By law such an appointment had to be put to a vote at the Annual General Meeting, and it was clear that the director of an oil company drilling for oil would never be voted in charge of the Falklands’ only wildlife conservation organisation. With no chance of election, trustees ignored the law, and elected themselves and Clifton prior to the Annual General Meeting. This was totally illegal, and the UK Charity Commission wrote to Falklands Conservation stating that they had breached the constitution, and that the appointments were illegal, but Falklands Conservation did not reverse the appointments. The Falkland Islands' only wildlife conservation organisation was now in the hands of an oil company director, with disastrous consequences for Falklands wildlife.”

The Bingham thing neatly illustrates the point Think was making; that a remote place like this does attract its share of dodgy characters wanting to make a fresh start. I don't include the previous chief of police in that category. His department just screwed up and he lost his job for it.
If you trawl further through the Falklands news, you'll see that this is the subject of some political headscratching at the moment, namely succcession planning, and how you get Falkland Islanders into more of the top jobs. And I'd certainly be starting with FIDC; I'm pretty certain we could find someone better right now.
The point is that this is our problem, and we are quite capable of solving it by ourselves. We have the freedom to run our own internal affairs, which means that some mistakes will be made. But they are our mistakes.

I had a look at the present lineup in Falklands Conservation and you'll be glad to see that it doesn't feature Lewis Clifton at all, currently chaired by the lovely Darren Christie, and I defy you to dig up any dirt on him.

Like at (73): “A remote place like this does attract its share of dodgy characters wanting to make a fresh start”

But…….Fact seems to be that many of those ”dodgy characters” don’t wish a ”fresh start”; they want to continue with their ”old ways” or even develop their scam skills further on the Islands.

About Mr. Paul Elliot story………. Would you believe your own “official” version of it………. if it was me telling it and the involved was an Argentinean Police Chief?

About Mr. Lewis Clifton……... He is still one of the respected “big guys” on the Islands with a “finger” everywhere. Isn’t he?

About Mr. David Waugh…….. doing the ”dirt” well before he even came there…….
Well……. the same should also apply for Dr. Bingham……Shouldn’t it?
Difference is that Dr. Bingham discovered and told some very” inconvenient truths” about penguins and marine mammals……..

About the Reynolds couple…..…. You know perfectly that this story has many more angles…………with a lot of embezzled money and mismanagement involved before the actual theft of the equipment.

All four cases mentioned above involve monetary gain for the mentioned persons…

    That is corruption.

Think, you can believe what you want about Paul Elliot, but he was highly respected before he came here, and retained the respect of many. I think he had to go because he was incompetent. He allowed his officers to keep the evidence in a cell with a gap under the door, and allowed the suspect the chance to hook it out. The police drugs dog who found the drugs in the first place did the rounds of all the police officers' houses and found nothing. I know this part is true. I admit that the truth is stranger than fiction sometimes, and I wouldnt believe it if i heard it. But this is an island ffs! How would anyone get the drugs out of here?

As for the dairy, it is the subject of an investigation by the Public Accounts Committee, which will be appointing an external firm to go through the books with a fine tooth comb. The remit of the Committee is determining 'value for money', but if anything dodgy went on you can be sure it will come to light.
I'm not saying anything about Lewis Clifton. His insider trading is a matter of public record. I wish I had his ability to make money, but I wouldn't want to be him in any other way.
Happy to talk about 'not Dr' Bingham. I met him a few times and he was a fruit loop of the highest order. He lost any credibilty in my eyes when he blamed the mass deaths of penguins in 2003 on overfishing, when it clearly wasn't. It's one of the worst things I've seen and to hear that self-important twat politicising it for his own twisted ends was utterly nauseating.

Nice of you to understand my skepticism about that coke story.
About getting the snow out of the Islands…..
I would use Cl. Ollie North system……
Military transport planes from my nearest military airbase…
    Any of those near you?

No, not very near as it happens.

And I never figured you for a conspiracy theorist. You'd be right at home on the Falklands Malvinas Forum, where a thread about the Argentines sinking the Invincible ran for nearly a year.

    C'mon Mr. Monty69

    Conspiracy theorist……… me?

Did I dream Oliver North / Iran-Contra Affaire?

    Did I dream this?

MPA would, by far, be my first choice to get that kind of merchandise out of there…..

No you didn't dream it, only the part where there was any similarity between those incidents and the Stanley snow.
That's what conspiracy theorists do; take a perfectly plausible and widely accepted explanation and chuck it out in favour of one which in this case requires the chief of police, all the rest of the police, Max the drugs dog, air movements at MPA and Brize Norton and the crew of some top secret transport flight to all be crims.
All of which begs the question why did they admit they found any drugs in the first place? I'm sure Max could have been bought off with a Bonio biscuit.

Evidently, you are a much better conspiracy theorist than me!
You even know the name of the narcotics dog :-)

    Hmmmmmm...
    Wait a minute...
A narcotics dog for such a little settlement ... And about 10 full time policemen..... and God knows how many auxiliary constables.....

Tell me..... Do you have a drug problem in the Islands?
Maybe the snow never left :-)

1 Narcotics dog, 10 full time policemen and about 10 more auxiliarys....

Not that much Think when you consider that they have to do the job of a national police force.

    :-)

I can't actually remember what the dog's name is. I might be confusing him wth a pup we had a few years ago. The drugs dog was in the paper with a photo, so no big sectret there.
The police need to be quite a few in number, we are told, to cover all the shifts. They also look after the prisoners as we don't have a separate prison.
I don't know about drugs here. I've heard people idly speculating that a poly tunnel would be a good environment for growing certain more unusual plants, but everyone I know sticks to tomatoes
